In the Reserve, your board file oversight is managed by your branch career manager and the HRC POC identified on the website for your particular board. I believe that there are some slight differences in the paperwork (ORB vs. 2-1 file etc). Obviously you would have to updatr your bio info with your new assignment info etc. as well as any Awards your outgoing command gives you when you leave. I would contact your branch reserve career manager ASAP and coordinate with your new S-1 immediately upon getting picked up by the Reserve. Your unit personnel section will be the ones that review your packet and request uploads of updated info to iPerms. Much of your board file will be pulled in from your iPerms by the HRC team in coordination with your new S1. Additionally any waivers or memos from your outgoing command should be updated with the new command info and re-signed as appropriate. I'm sorry, I don't know if this means you have to resubmit your electronic board file altogether when you get in the Reserve but you might. If you're trying to convert to Reserve and get picked up by the board within the same short period of time, it may be problematic. Good news is once everything is in iPerms, it's pretty easy to construct a board file with HRC. Just gotta call them and be proactive.
I have always been told to "get the promotion first" before making the big move. IST certainly slows it down. You eliminate the Governor's Council portion of the wait but have a different approving authority and (likely) no one you know to push the paperwork forward. While I am told AMEDD and JAG are still the easiest, I know several who languished for years waiting for the next promotion.
