There was a precedent suspicion, shall we say, that led to the request. We opened a case and took it from there. Once completed, we met with the requesting entity to render the results of our investigation. I'm not sure if that's where you are specifically headed or what your question involves, but CGIS received investigative requests from units, commands, districts, and the Head Shed!!! I can think of a handful in my twenty years. Both are initiated by the local commander and the results are returned to that local commander for action or disposition. In the Coast Guard and Navy, it is referred to as a Captain's Mast. A report is made ( maybe something stolen from someone ) It is investigated, then it is then turned over to the CO who will commence a hearing if he feels it is warranted. The Hearing is held and punishment is given ( Usually Restriction and or Extra Duty ).
