Does anyone suffer from memory loss due to PTSD?

Hey guys how are you ? Do or did you experience memory loss that was PTSD related if so how long did it take to heal asking for a friend.

I was put on meds and experienced memory problems. When the VA decided to take us off of opioids my Dr said memory would improve with time. Still waiting.

I have huge holes in my memory. I also struggle with making new memories. Drives my family bonkers. I'm constantly forgetting things BUT ...... damn, forgot what I was gonna say.... anyway, you learn to do mnemonic hints or write things down, again if it is remembered to do so. I get flashes sometimes when looking at photos or when other senses are in use, but my mind is hiding things from me on purpose. I've learned to deal with it and I make sure to tell people close to me that I may need help remembering things.

Yea it happens. I think it was more the TBI but I don't really know I remember very little from my second deployment, and you know what I am ok with that but hey that is just me.

I can not say if it was the the PTSD or all of the concussions that I had playing football and constantly hitting my head onboard ship when going through hatches. i was stars many times and a few lost myself as to were I was going.

Once we forget, no guarantee if we'll remember anything. It might take a serious trauma to bring it back. But, I've never remembered anything once I forgot.

Not really from PTSD, which I got in 83,90. But a lovely reminder from GF1- it has not healed and since I can't prove a photographic memory from prior, without jumping thru hoops, the VA doesn't care.

I was never put on meds, I'll state that up front.

I didn't experience memory loss from PTSD alone. I did experience anger issues, sleep issues, and bad dreams. Plus, for about a year or so after my second tour I had an issue with handling raw ground beef. I waited way longer than I should have to seek treatment for it (ignoring the issue and all) but I managed to find that talking back and forth with a behavioral health worker helped a lot.

Still won't touch meds.

Looking at the responses here, I think I'm definitely on the mild end of the spectrum. My issues are also from TBI, so I'm not sure if it pertains to your question or not. If so, after my second deployment I often found myself in the course of normal conversation standing there trying to come up with common, everyday words that I shouldn't have to think about. That has dramatically lessened over the last ten years to the point that I hardly find myself in that situation anymore.

My other issue, which I still have to this day, is that my long-term memories tend to become "fuzzy" a lot faster than they used to. The time period of my second deployment is also a lot fuzzier in my memory than my first.

Hopefully that might help with something.

GF syndrome got mine, and no it hasn't healed or gotten any better since 1996.
