No, but it will be on your JST and can be converted into college credits. Which equals to promotion points!

PFC,

You are ranked/rated for promotion against junior enlisted from your own MOS. If you all went to 14E AIT, what would the promotion points be for? In short, no.

I agree with this response. If you want promotion points, complete correspondence courses on JKO as well as online Skillport courses. Make sure to participate in military education courses that are offered by your NCO.

The single biggest point category for E5 promotion is Military Training. APFT and Marksmanship give up to 160 points each (with deployment time in there on top of it for a max of 340). Hell, Ranger School OR getting through Special Forces only gets you 40 points each. Even if you did every possible military school the max is 260. You could have a Medal of Honor, and 20 Silver Stars, the awards section maxes out at 125 points. You could have a PhD, and the max civilian education points is 75 points.

BY FAR!!!!!!!!!!!!! The easiest way to rack up points for E5 is to be able to shoot and be super fit. If you did Ranger School, Sapper School, and Special Forces, that's only 120 points. A 300 record APFT would trump all three of those combined.

The point I want to hit home here is it would be a pity to focus on "school" so much to lose sight that fitness and marksmanship continue to vary and need to be kept up.

Wow, that's actually a little disheartening. But I'm improving my PT with hopes of getting through schools anyhow so I guess that makes it bittersweet.

I got promoted as quick as I did because I maxed out civilian education with my Bachelor's degree that I came in with. Coming in as a SPC helped too - but maxed out civilian education also helped. Especially to SSG when points went up. I got promoted at around 660 then. I'm not that great at PT or marksmanship either...I know it's changed since then but the Bachelor's degree definitely helped me out.

The minimum passing APFT is 180, and that gets one 40 points on an E5 promo packet. Each additional APFT point above 180 is only worth 1 more point for a total of 160 points at a perfect APFT of 300.

Someone with an APFT score of 255 will have the same number of promotion points as someone with an APFT of 180 and at at least 75 semester units. I don't know about you but just being in shape enough to get 75 additional APFT points is FAR easier than the 2+ years of college.

HELL............... One can EARN college semester credits for PHYSICAL FITNESS CLASSES. DOUBLE BONUS!!!!!!!!!!!! Earn civilian education points while shoring up your APFT score.

It's even more exaggerated for Marksmanship. 40 = 160 promo points. Minimum passing of 23 is 38 points. Ergo, each additional HIT on the qual range above minimum is worth 7.5 points.

So someone without any college who get's a 33 on the range is going to get the same points as someone with a 23 qual who maxed civilian education.

**************
Someone (a committee I suppose) FAR above any of us here decided it's just as important to the Army that an E5 can get 10 more rounds on target as it is for them to have 2+ years of college education.

DON'T GET ME WRONG. I entered the USAR with 1-Master's, 2- Bachelor's, 1-AA, and a CFA. Believe me I was annoyed to find out non of that really benefits me until I'm up for LTC in a competitive branch (which I'm not).
