It doesn't have to mean a combat tour. Some of their grunts and armor units used to spend almost 1/2 a yr in the field. I suspect that because their enlistment for most is only 2 yrs. Unless they reenlist for more and go to a specially school. Good people to work with. Did a few exercise with them and other NATO units. Reforgure 1988 was WAY fun. Glad it was only an exercise. Units were tripping over each other in Germany. The memo says that pre-deployment requirements are only required for deployments greater than 30 days to areas without a permanent military treatment facility. For example, we did a 7 week exercise across 5 countries. We had to do PDHAs and PDHRAs, but we colloquially called it an exercise, though technically a deployment by EUCOM standards. We did not get a combat patch, HFP/IDP, or get our dwell time reset. Units going to Poland for 6 months, however, do get their dwell reset (although no combat patch/HFP/IDP). So these aren't combat deployments, but are technically deployments. You may be anywhere in the world outside CONUS. The something is they were deployed outside CONUS.
