Yes, most of what they inculcate into our kids are fairy tales and when they finally grow up and get a job at the nearest barista, real life will hit them square in the face. Time to see what taxes are to pay for all the liberal largesse.

I don't know if you would call it an illusion, but I do know in my case we sent a daughter off to Columbia University back in the 90sand what we got back was a very liberal young lady who now does not see any other way but the ultra liberal views of the Democractic party,Public Broadcasting,NPR and the like, being a Vietnam vet I've found it very hard to come to any kind of middle ground with her and usually avoid politics entirely.

First I would question the notion of liberal Academia... I've had both liberal and conservative professors and at least in my own experience, don't believe the political leanings of my professors have had any significant impact on my own views with a single exception. That exception was created because I was studying the history of central and south American nations and began learning things that upended my perception that US occupation and involvement in the region was for the most part... benign. Unfortunately the objective study of history will often destroy both Conservative and Liberal myths about power and the role of US power in the world.

Liberal myths about socialist revolutions are as subject to objective criticism as fascist dictatorships. For that reason, I believe it would make a lot more sense to frame Academia as moderate. Then there is the question about who gets to frame the perspective of most Americans... do Americans really listen to Academia or are they listening to entertainment media? The chasm between peer reviewed science on most issues and whats being reported in the media is often substantial... and IMO at least, the illusion isn't being created by Academia.

I took a quick look at your profile to gauge your age and education. Progressivism hasn't wheedled its way into professional educators as it has in the liberal arts. Also, you most likely completed your education before the Progressive Movement completed its conquest of the classrooms.

SSG Ryan R. - Your going to have to provide an example... are you talking about only teaching evolution in science class, not teaching that the war between the States was primarily about State rights or discussion of the genocide that took place against American Indians?

I'd also like to play Captain Obvious for a minute, and point out that if you are far enough to the left... there is going to be a distinct conservative bias and if you are far enough to the right there is going to be a distinct liberal bias.

CPT Jack Durish - I wrapped up my BS with four Anthropology classes from the University of Arizona (they doubled as sociology credits) in 2006. So it's only been a decade. I agree that IT and Management are not particularly prone to political bias.

If anything my kids are/were exposed to more conservative bias than liberal bias through High School, not really surprising since we lived in military towns. My son attended Grand Canyon University... which isn't exactly a liberal leaning college.

When exactly did the Progressive movement complete it's conquest of classrooms and what exactly does that even mean?

SSG Ryan R. - Everyone is biased toward their own political views, be they left or right, libertarian or authoritarian. Racial bias has pretty much been replaced by economic bias as the principle issue harming children's education, as long as schools are funded by local taxes... poor areas will have the worst schools and wealthy regions will have the best schools.

Affirmative action has helped open up career fields for people who normally wouldn't be able to participate in them, what they do once their foot is in the door is up to them. What matters is that everyone has the OPPORTUNITY to be all they can be. Not once have I ever been denied the opportunity to compete for any position or suffered because someone else was granted the opportunity to compete as well.
