Does my previous enlisted service count towards officer promotion?

I am currently a medical student training on active duty at USUHS with almost ten years of service in the Army. After reading through some internet information, I still have a lingering question that I hope you can help me with: Does my previous enlisted service count towards officer promotion?

I understand that my time as a student does not count, but does my ten years as enlisted count towards officer promotion? Are there any other factors for promoting other than TIS and TIG?

Your enlisted time won't count towards officer promotion. Officers go through centralized promotion boards as a group, and those groups are based on when you were promoted to your current grade as an officer. Those centralized promotion boards look at your overall record to determine who gets promoted (civilian education, previous assignment history, military schooling, officer evaluation reports, awards, etc.). Your record will show that you were previously enlisted, and it will also show any awards earned while you were enlisted (and any deployments you may have done), but that's really about it.

No, it will not. Although it counts towards your overall time in service for retirement.

I sat on several officer and enlisted promotion and selection boards during my time in the army and YES, service as an enlisted member does count once you are commissioned. While your actual enlisted efficiency reports were not viewed on officer boards, your service was noted and prior service and enlisted rank, military schools and awards do count in the overall view of each board member. Prior service and rank indicates maturity and dedication. Some of the finest officers in the service were prior enlisted.

No. Years in service yes. For pay only. My two bosses in Holland were ssg's who went to OCS. One retired as a major and went to work for LMR at Fort Lee. Gary Moritz is his name. QM. Harry Flanagan retired as a LTC and went work for honneywell. Because of him I was offered a job in Afghanistan 4 years ago. 200k with benefits.Turned down when I was going to camp victory on the border with Pakistan

TIS for pay and retirement. You should be payed O1E. Other than that what the officer below said about officer boards for promoting.

It's been awhile since I've looked, but there is a special pay category up through Captain where it does both in Pay and Longevity. A huge advantage no one speaks of is in your ribbon wear, when the enlisted folks who will work with you see NCOA ribbons and probably service ribbons and other decorations, it will bring some real cred to the game. Officers that have enlisted background gets paid more. The promotions are standard on evaluations training etc.

I tend to doubt that it directly does, but indirectly it does. Your performance while enlisted or as an NCO is a reasonable predictor of your performance as an officer. If you were deployed a lot or perhaps picked up a personal decoration with a "V" or "Arrowhead" device, it will be seen. Even if I am incorrect you are attending the USUHS. That is the Medical Corps "Service" Academy. Your performance as a physician will guide your career from here on out. You will be a "ring knocker" MD.

As I understand your question, yes, it will influence your ADOR, and thus the future DOR when you promote to 1LT and then CPT. However, the difference it makes is only a few months.

It counts toward O-1 to O-3 pay when you have at least 4 years and 1 day of active duty or more than 1,460 points. In other words. You'll get paid more when comparing yourself to O-1 tru O-3 without a prior service as enlisted.

With 10 yrs enlisted service you will be on a different pay scale which is 4 or more years prior enlistment. But your prior enlistment will not affect your promotions in Officer CORP

What if you have the TIS requirement since you are prior enlisted will this make your promotion come faster? Once you are promotable.
