Does Recruiter Duty assist in making MSG or more so to SFC?

I am interested in volunteering for recruiter as I have no broadening assignment as of yet. However, I don’t want it to hurt my chances for MSG as I would be outside of my CMF. Has anyone volunteered for recruiter and had it assist their career? Thanks.

Recruitment has a bad reputation within the ranks. Hurting your chances for MSG may very well depend on the treatment from a recruiter from the past on someone judging you. Best of luck.

Niether. It takes you away form your job as a squad leader and PSG. It hard to get picked up with out your rated time.

Shouldn’t hurt your chances at making MSG. I was selected for SFC while in recruiting school, did 2 1/2 years as a SFC recruiter and I still was selected for MSG on this last list.

If you are performing, picking up credentials, separating yourself from the other recruiters and your evaluations are articulating that, you should be competitive.

depends - have you your rated time as a PSG? if not - then you could be holding yourself back as a recruiter is 24 months at a minimum, and you need 24 months rated time as PSG - could be wrong on the rated time required as it may have changed from 2015 - but in any event, I would get the rated time in my PMOS before moving on to a Tradoc/recruiting command.

Having sat on the selection board for MSG... Recruiting/DS/ACRC assignments are all priority 1 assignments. Although not traditionally organized so that you get Plt Sergeant time...etc, we gave you equal credit. The Army has to fill these billets and won't hold it against you. Now, if you haven't had any line PSG time, deployments, etc, don't stay too long.

Fidel Lepe, Another couple of questions, is Platoon Sergeant even required for your MOS? Not every MOS requires that job for consideration for promotion. I do know MOSs that don’t which is why I ask. Also will USAREC even accept you as a SFC? That might be something else to research as it could be all a moot point if they won’t accept SFCs anyways. When I was recruiting the only time I saw SFCs was when they got promoted on recruiting duty (like myself) or they were 79Rs already.
