Does Red Cross leave count against time spent in country?

I had a soldier miss his service medal by two weeks. We’re not sure if his emergency leave counted as time out of the country. Any help or references would be great. Thanks y’all!

What award? AR 600-8-22 governs awards.

That would be interesting because if even under normal circumstances, we all take some sort of leave while deployed. Now, if the leave was BEFORE the minimum requirement and he never returned then I could see him missing out on it.

Your commander should be able to answer that question or your unit information officer.

Let’s see.
Yes of course.
If you weren’t there, you weren’t there.
Things like Emergency leave and permissive TDY are free (non chargeable Leave) but if you didn’t meet the time requirements you don’t get the medal
