If you pay for it, covers you all the time.

SGLI is life insurance that you pay for (a small amount is taken out of your paycheck). Its the most affordable life insurance there is and covers you whether or not your are on duty or back at your civilian job. However, once you get out/ETS, you will no longer be covered.
