Though I've obviously never been close to dealing with this situation, I'm thinking your branch manager and the Enlisted Strength Management office in the Soldier Support Center would be your fastest and most accurate resources. I've heard "no" before - keyword being "heard." Response by SGT Private RallyPoint Member made May 6 at 2015 8:09 AM 2015-05-06T08:09:59-04:00 2015-05-06T08:09:59-04:00 1SG Private RallyPoint Member 645227

I would recommend that you ask CSM Private RallyPoint Member he is very knowledgable and like you i have heard both. They set a standard, which you don't know, and they advise the board members. Other things they look at is each MOS strength, so what is good for one MOS is not the same for the other. So the best bet is, do your best, and remember you wil not be in the military forever. What are your plans after the military is key. However, once a Soldier becomes an SFC, if PSG is a required key developemental position then the NCO will need to do that time as an SFC to be competitive for MSG.
