I think my dad and my uncle are the only males in my family that did not serve. My dad 4Fed out of Vietnam due to bad knees and my uncle had a medical condition that eventually killed him. I'm not sure there's a male blood relative otherwise that doesn't hold the title "veteran." I also have family on both sides who served during the Civil War.<br />Sadly, it looks like my children have no desire or intent to serve and being a free country and volunteer force there isn&#39;t much I can say or do. I have expressed my thoughts and desires, but they are free to choose. In fact, I think at least one person in every generation except my dads enlisted in one of the branches. My dad was going to join the Air Force but was DQed for medical reasons.<br /><br />As far as my family serving goes, it doesn't really surprise me. I have no idea if my last name is tied to a generation of my family actually serving royalty but we do have ancestry in England and Ireland so it's possible. Makes me curious, unfortunately I have no way of telling basically anywhere prior to the 1900's. I myself am in the Navy, my wife is in the Navy, bother her parents were in the Navy, and one of her grandfathers served in WWII and the other in Korea. It's really interesting to see just how many people here have a family history of military service compared to the firsts in their family.
