The only actually holidays we get off is Christmas and New Years. He was not due until about New Year&#39;s, but I considered it an early Christmas present. All of us in Korea in that time frame were hunkered down for what we thought was going to be a Y2K crisis (intel suggested North Korea was going to &quot;try something&quot; on New Year&#39;s). Lucky for me, my son was born on the last day off I had before New Year&#39;s and I was able to hear him being born via telephone 14 time zones away. The chow hall had a full blown Thanksgiving dinner prepared for the trainees. Best part was unlimited use of the pay phones for the night. Once I was married I did the same till kids were at least 5 and could notice daddy was gone. I&#39;d usually work the holidays, so my troops with family could spent time with them. It was a small price to pay to see their kids happy!
