SSG Private RallyPoint Member 190639 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I have a chance to PCS to my Units sister unit located at Fort Richardson, With this PCS i move into a non Deployable slot, this gives me three more years to work on and finish a double bachelors degree, plus my unit if offering to send me to manufacturer training that will only enhance my job when I retire. have been in the army 4 years and have yet to deploy. I am Currently a SGT , and i am not sure what i should do , Any real advice on what will be better for me and my career , a deployment or an education ? ( I am currently standing on 200 college credit hours so i do not need the points ) Education or Deployment? 2014-07-31T01:16:25-04:00 SSG Private RallyPoint Member 190639 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I have a chance to PCS to my Units sister unit located at Fort Richardson, With this PCS i move into a non Deployable slot, this gives me three more years to work on and finish a double bachelors degree, plus my unit if offering to send me to manufacturer training that will only enhance my job when I retire. have been in the army 4 years and have yet to deploy. A deployment would reflect as a good experience, not generally needed but people tend to give more respect and faith in a service member that has deployed. You can always finish up your education afterwards, but in the midst of us wrapping things up overseas, deployments will be hard to come by in the future or until the next conflict. Colleges don't. Deploying is a privilege. There aren't many deployment opportunities left, so the remaining slots should go to those who want to deploy for the right reasons. My college will still be there when I get back but my chance to deploy may not if I wait too long. I think you're in the same boat as me SGT. Deploying is an awesome experience and you shouldn't forgo an opportunity to deploy to do something you can accomplish when you come back. Your notion of retirement leads me to believe that you are considering a military retirement. At four years in finishing your degree this early is great but later in your career you would wish you had those deployment months. I'm not sure of you MOS but i was able to finish my majority of my associates while deployed. Do everything you can to max out your points in the areas you can.
