Many have voiced their discontent with the current field of Presidential candidates. The same thing happened during in the 1950s, however. After "Draft Ike" rallies were held in NYC and elsewhere, Eisenhower began a late campaign in which he secured the Republican nomination. General Mattis, like Eisenhower, would need a push from the people. Would you stand behind this campaign?

I've met General Mattis, and am a big supporter. However, I would want to know what some of his actual policies are, especially on domestic issues such as taxes, health care, budget, and the role of government, before I could answer this question.

MAJ (Join to see) - If we fought wars like we did WW II... i.e. with the attitude to win at all cost... That could cover both aspects of society and security. Right now we are society building while neglecting our own. However, the right attitude must start at home and reinforced in school, by the way which isn't happening anymore. The funny thing is the youth of our military are learning the morality of a social continence while in the military. That may be one of the reasons why troops who hit the civilian world are treated, for the most part, with higher expectations (excluding the liberal minded who continue to look down on the military masses).

You're absolutely right, but that is changing, albeit slowly, as the incoming generation of servicemembers enter the service with some error built into their moral (and intellectual) foundation. That is an issue that seems to infect our youth earlier and earlier in their development. For example: There was a time when thoughts and decisions regarding gender roles and sexual behavior were considered issues for adults. Now, even elementary schools are trying to help establish personal identities for sexuality. Fist fights have left the school and the playground and entered the law enforcement arena. Children are taught more about their supposed rights than the role of authority and boundaries in interpersonal relationships. Certain axioms which we took for granted (like "Family comes first", "Life is not fair", and "You can't have everything" or "Every choice has a consequence") are no longer as common. Our drill instructors and military leaders have different raw materials from which to shape today's warriors.
To bring it back to the subject in the initial post...this is why simply choosing a Chief Executive and Commander in Chief who understands warfare is a bit short-sighted. I do not know any generals right now that spark that fire in my belly to draft them to the U.S. Presidency.

Historically, I don't know that Eisenhower was an especially effective president. I've read he was the first POTUS to "lose his congress" within 2 years, though that's not unusual today. But I don't know that a career military man has any business leading a DEMOCRACY. Military generals have basically been dictators all their adult life, giving orders all day every day with little regard for the opinions/needs/wants of their subordinates. And he's just one of however many general officers. I doubt it would be hard to find plenty of people who speak poorly of him.

Frederick King - SSG Bales was a decorated combat vet also, I doubt you'd want him as POTUS.

Let's put it this way - If it was a dead worm running against Clinton or Sanders I would vote for the dead worm. General Mattis would be ok in my books.

Good possibility but then when the majority of a nation is concerned about preserving their entitlements and gaining even more free stuff, that is how you end up with a career criminal and the family cartel in the WH. That is low information voters not those that cut thru the noise and BS.

I would vote for a blind 3 legged dog in lieu of any of the current candidates.
