Enlisted to Officer as a private?

<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I’m a PV2 at my first unit. I’ve been in for 9 months and definitely want to go to college while I’m in. I’d like to go officer and I don’t know which way to go. Either green to gold or to get out and re-enlist as an officer. My asvab scores are decent (127 GT and all other scores range from 127-129) I’m pretty squared away and it almost sticks out from my peers. I don’t know if that’s from being out of IET for a short period of time or what. Any information would be great, thanks!Wed, 15 Jul 2020 17:44:11 -0400Enlisted to Officer as a private?

<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I am a prior enlisted officer who did Green to Gold. If you truly want GTG, think about preferences that go along with application process and training. Consider whether if you want to be a full time college student, which school and future branch as officer, etc. It is a rewarding program, but be sure it is the right path for youLTC Eugene ChuWed, 15 Jul 2020 19:38:56 -04002020-07-15T19:38:56-04:00Response by SGT Private RallyPoint Member made Jul 15 at 2020 8:58 PM

<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Green to gold needs a minimum of 2 years active. Find more info on a hip pocket scholarship that's more along your Avenue. If you get out and join ROTC then you need to compete for a commission with other students.SGT Private RallyPoint MemberWed, 15 Jul 2020 20:58:25 -04002020-07-15T20:58:25-04:00Response by SGM Bill Frazer made Jul 15 at 2020 9:02 PM

<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Look kid, there is not "enlistment" to be an Officer. You are direct commissioned due to special training/skills, or you go the ROTC route and hope to get commissioned, or you apply/accepted and pass the OCS course. Which if you failed you will be returned to unit at your enlisted rank,.SGM Bill FrazerWed, 15 Jul 2020 21:02:27 -04002020-07-15T21:02:27-04:00Response by PV2 Nathaniel Hatcher made Jul 21 at 2020 12:27 PM

<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>What I would suggest if you want to do it this path is to look into the Simultaneous Membership Program. I am currently working on becoming an SMP cadet. The trade off of this path is you have to go Reserves, so if that doesn't interest you then you can write it off. If you are Active, I don't see any problems with trying for Green to Gold; however I'll give you the advice my commander has given me as I try and go SMP. It is worth it to spend some time on the enlisted side and try and possibly go through a deployment. If you go through a deployment you will learn what it's like to be under leadership and that will help you figure out how you want to lead. It can also help you make connections to those you lead and act as a way to build up your credibility by having a deployment already under your belt by the time you are commissioned and at your first unit as an officer. <br /><br />Good luck out there, and I hope this turns out well for you.1LT Private RallyPoint MemberFri, 24 Jul 2020 19:24:39 -04002020-07-24T19:24:39-04:00Response by PV2 Glen Lewis made Aug 2 at 2020 2:35 PM

<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I don't know anything at all about how that transition works but I do know that officers who know both sides of the coin seem to get more respect and confidence in their abilities from the enlisted under them. I'd complete my enlistment before upgrading.PV2 Glen LewisSun, 02 Aug 2020 14:35:14 -04002020-08-02T14:35:14-04:00Response by PFC Private RallyPoint Member made Aug 4 at 2020 7:36 PM
