I sad, "Hey dumb shit for brains, look at my license plate." I walked off and went in the store. We both came out at the same time. I have a cousin who walks just fine, but has a heart condition that leaves her exhausted and out of breath if she walks more than a few hundred feet. Few of us have any idea why an individual merits a handicapped sticker or license plate. They're not that easy to get. When I was attending Utah Valley University, I would have loved to be able to qualify for one due to the arthritis in my hips and knees. With over 33,000 students, the parking situation is difficult, at best, and I frequently had to walk over 3/4 of a mile to get to class. Very painful by the time I got there. The doctor told me, though, that unless I was a candidate for joint replacement, I couldn't get one. That's why we shouldn't presume to judge a person based on superficialities, and we should never bully someone because we can't see why they have a handicapped sticker or plate. We did not park in the designated "disabled veteran" parking spot, but did -- properly hanging the approved state issued placard -- park in the disabled parking. I also have chronic pain in my lower extremities and my wife has stress fractures in every bone below and including her pelvis, similar to the veteran in the note from above.<br /> As we entered the store I noticed a woman walking out had seen us park and as we walked by she turned and followed us back into the store. After following us across nearly half of the store (I also have a real problem with people following me) she spoke up and asked us if we had parked in the handicapped parking. I stopped, trying to be polite, and turned to her as she held out her badge and started explaining that she was in fact an off duty State Patrol officer. I said that was nice and she had no right to ask, but since she had -- I produced the little card WA makes people carry in addition to their license to verify the parking placard in use does in fact belong to them, and explained that both myself and my wife were in fact entitled to use that or any other spot we so desired as DVs.<br /> She did apparently know she was in the wrong for doing anything, but dug her hole a bit deeper by making the same statement as the tool above that she "had to ask, because neither of us "looked" disabled to her".<br /> I find it repugnant that people have the nerve to pull this kind of crap in this country, but I kind of expect it anymore the way our people are being brought up.<br /> I am sorry that this had to happen to you or any one else.Response by PO1 Robert Greer made Sep 8 at 2016 9:58 AM2016-09-08T09:58:10-04:002016-09-08T09:58:10-04:00MSG Nathan Ellison1873387<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>That sh!tbag should be identified and public humiliated, at the very least.Response by MSG Nathan Ellison made Sep 8 at 2016 10:33 AM2016-09-08T10:33:05-04:002016-09-08T10:33:05-04:00SSgt Raymond Sirois1873396<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>"More perfect?" I do not look disabled what ever that is supposed to mean, I am not missing a leg, arm, nor am I blind. But, believe me the disability does not have to show to be very very real. I the person that wrote the original note in my mind was jealous that the disabled person was able to park closer to the store or was just being an ass, take your pick. I do not always use the disabled parking, but there are times that I thank god for those spaces.
