Fake Ranger at a PA Mall on Black Friday

This guy was called out at a mall in PA by a vet.

EDIT:

He claims he went to basic at Ft Jackson and is stationed at Ft Lewis, and claimed belonging to the Ranger's 2nd Battalion, versus going to basic at Ft Benning.

Rhetorically asking, is that battalion stationed at Ft Lewis in beautiful Seattle? I thought they all were at Ft Benning, as noted below he got that part right. This guy did his research to a point, but falls short when claiming he joined with a MOS of a driver but could not come up with the MOS code for that job.

Oddly enough other than the fact that he is big tub of goo. He almost looked like he could have gotten away with the ruse if it weren't for claiming the third combat badge and missing other items on his uniform.

That mall is in Langehorne Pa, a suburb 20 minutes away from Philly. I grew up in walking distance, for me anyway, from it and apent many hours there. I dont recognize the faker and if the name is correct, i dont recognizie it either.
The main reason he was able to get away with it so well is that area of Bucks County isnt heavily laden with retirees or former military of more recent times but in that its population has exploded over the last 20 years. A good number of Vietnam Vets and Guard. That area had so few vets of modern era that when I came home from Desert Storm and went to that mall, it seemed as though everyone knew who I was, no one else that I knew of in the area went to that war.
So as this guy is walking around, and no doubt knows that what I stated holds true, he knew he could pass it off and no one would know better. Except the 506th vet.
Probably looking for discounts and recognition.
No Ranger Tab either and way overweight for infantry.

There is a Facebook page called "Stolen Valor" that does investigations and "outs" posers like this "individual" ... that's where I first saw this video. Had I encountered this poser, I would have professionally exercised my "general military authority" as an officer and corrected this faker, to include insisting he take me to meet his "CSM" face-to-face. I have a feeling I would have "insisted" he go change into civilian clothes and surrender his unauthorized uniform and accoutrements, as he was in violation of, at a minimum, 10 USC 771 and possibly the federal Stolen Valor Act (if he received discounts / freebies while posing as a Soldier).

The sad thing about this situation is the poor guy who was posing as a Ranger is mentally challenged.He couldn't get in the military due to it.He was simply trying to honor the uniform.However I believe someone should have stopped him before leaving his house and explained to him what he was doing was wrong.

Watching all of these stolen valor videos makes me mad, watching this video of this guy posing as a Ranger infuriates me. Though I am a new Ranger and fresh to Ranger Regiment I still earned the right to be called a Ranger not this guy.

On a positive note, I doubt that anyone would have attempted to "steal valor" during the Vietnam War period. Most of us ditched our uniforms and every sign that we were military as soon as we rejoined the civilian world. Today's environment is quite different, isn't it? If anything, these attempts to "steal valor" tend to reflect the respect that service men and women are accorded these days.

Now, before you jump all over me, I'm not excusing their behavior. I'm just commenting on an interesting aspect of it...

I have responded to similar threads and participated in conversations at work about this sort of thing. First, this fake fatty deserved any embarrassment he felt (and a lot more in my opinion). Second, I believe, that this faker's motivation was to try and get a couple of additional discounts on the already price cut merchandise on Black Friday. Third, I see with the constant call outs of these fools and their stolen valor, someone is going to finally do enough research to not be found out. AND that scares me.

Christopher Jordan Bailey pleaded guilty to charges that he defrauded banks of nearly $300,000 pretending to be a farmer and a decorated, wounded Marine;

Christopher Jordan Bailey, 28, of Brentwood pleaded guilty Wednesday in U.S. District Court to charges of bank fraud, false statements on a loan application and what is known as “stolen valor” for claiming he was a U.S. Marine.

New Hampshire law enforcement became interested in Bailey in March 2014 after Jerry A. Bazata, commercial loan officer and a vice president at Newburyport Five Cents Savings Bank branch in Portsmouth, contacted police concerning $300,000 in fraudulent loans Bailey had obtained from the bank.

Further frauds attempted by Bailey were discovered by investigators at Citizen’s Bank and others, where Bailey allegedly used a counterfeit letter from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and an Equifax document. Bailey also allegedly claimed to be entering active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps when applying for a loan from Farm Credit East, backing his claim with yet another fraudulent letter. According to the Thursday press release, Bailey also claimed to have received a Purple Heart, Silver Star and combat action ribbon.

Bailey also pleaded guilty to a charge of stolen valor for falsely claiming he had served in the U.S. Marines and had been awarded a Purple Heart and Silver Star to improve his odds of getting the loans.

He faces a maximum sentence of 30 years on the bank fraud and false statements convictions, and a year on the stolen valor count.

Because lying about their service isn’t their only crime…every time.
