I am an E-2 and you bet your sweet ass I'm gonna call out any fake fucker. I'm homeless and I see this shit all the time, some junkie or drunken fuck wants to use Veteran status to get more money from people. As far as have I been deployed? The answer is no. However, I lost two friends overseas one in Iraq and one in Afghanistan and to me it would do their memory a great injustice to let fucktards like this run around in uniform pretending to be what they are not.
As far as all the comments of call the police sadly even though it is federal law and they can be prosecuted, I believe unless they are falsifying to get benefits they can't be punished, or law enforcement refuses to punish them... Not sure, have been told they won't do anything though when I've notified local law enforcement.

One day we'll witness either a unstable individual or one who truly is what he's claiming, violently end these outers. Pass on to peers, buddies and the like to read the Stolen Valor Act and to be aware of the legal ramifications of engaging a person about this. It's distasteful to act as if you're something you're not, but if they are not breaking any law(s) then the accuser could get into trouble for harassment or assault. Unless the guy is scoring free chow or other bennies or doing something to make us look bad (besides telling tall tales) I don't care. That's like me clobbering a E-2 who's in a bar telling some girl he's a LT and a pilot so he can get a win. I'm not going to do it, he'll screw up eventually.

LOL 1. I have never heard a Recon or Force Recon Marine ever call themselves "Special Forces" an Army term. They call themselves Recon or Force Recon..Now Marine Raiders, but never Marine Corps. I got called out by someone claiming I was stolen valor, I went to a local fastfood establishment for lunch and didn't change into civies. I am currently waive from wearing headgear due to stitches in my head. Some asshole behind me started shit for me being out of uniform because the waiting line was outside and said I should have my cover on. My uniform of the day was sort of fucked up because I'm a fuels technician and I had jet fuel on me. After he ended his tirade I showed him my CAC card and explained my waiver, not that it was any of his business. In the end he apologize and in true professional fashion I accepted. What I wanted to do was beat his ass for causing a scene without knowing the facts.

his uniform is messed up though. don't think the marine should have gone off quite like that, but i truly understand why he did it. that obviously struck a nerve with this guy, i've talked with many returning vets at the hospital here in florida that had to watch many of their buddies die from ied's and seen how they talked about it, especially since they were injured and discharged from the incident, they were really not okay with what happened, that's why i can understand why this marine did this to this guy like he did. these soldiers that come home from that after seeing what they did see, needing help, don't always have the ability to control themselves afterwards, not saying this marine is one of them, what i am saying is that those i have spoken with may or may not have said something to these people that think it's okay to do things like this.

the recording part i don't know exactly why that is going on, maybe more or less for the public to see what kind of idiots do take advantage of what they have not earned, to hear the excuses of these people when confronted, so maybe they won't give them any benefits without giving up an id card of some sort. i don't agree with how the marine handled it, but i do understand the reasoning behind it.

i myself have no room to speak like that, nor would i, i'm not getting in the middle of something like this, i got hurt long before i could help out in the way i wanted to since i grew up wanting to join the military.

Hello, I encountered a similar incident, when I came home from Spain. I took my wife to an AC/DC concert. A man had put articles of clothing in seats, to save for his friends. I had on my Cruise Jacket, I got on the USS John F Kennedy. I asked the guy to remove his coat and let us have the general admission seats. He looked at my Marine Corps patches and told me he was a Seal and he'd kick my ass! I told him I would throw him off the first tier seating balcony onto the floor of the auditorium. After security came and investigated the incident, me my wife and friend got to stay. The other guy got kicked out. When idiots pose as military, or they pin on medals and ribbons they do not deserve, the truth will reveal itself! Sometimes the truth can hurt!!

Special Forces "tab" is awarded for permanent wear upon graduation from SFQ SF Qualification. This school is ONLY attended by Army personnel. Marines can be Force Recon, Seals, or Delta (which is comprised of the best operators from all branch Spec Ops); but a marine with the SF tab could only be possible if a former Green Beret ST soldier left the Army and re enlisted in the USMC.
A 2LT can retire ... MEDICALLY.

So it is possible, but highly unlikely

I am mixed on the public confrontation of suspected stolen valor peeps. I have seen more actual veterans harassed during various fleet week events by these over zealous stolen valor hunters. Let them go call out Jesse Ventura for his lies of being a Navy SEAL. He was never a true SEAL he was only a UDT Frogman and left the service long before the merger. Heck Ventura lied to get into the Navy. According to his brother Jesse cheated on his eye exam, he is actually color blind and so he was not qualified for service in the US Navy. Its real bad if you are color blind when it comes to trying to read color coded electronic components, not so much of an issue back in the 60s but today most devices use electrical components. If a guy is publicly claiming to be something he is not then he should be challenged, but trolling the streets for people with the wrong uniform or hair style might be a bit much. Many civilians wear BDUs that is not illegal. I will dress up as a soldier for Halloween, does that put me in violation, then you have the COSplay comic con call of duty guys. Its not wearing the uniform, its when you wear it and claim to be in or have been in the military. Or lie to get benefits is when you are in violation.

Stolen Valor laws have changed, currently it is ONLY an arrestable offense if the alleged perp tries to gain benefits/gifts/etc from claiming service or awards. It is NOT illegal to parade around in a uniform, though it's incredibly fucked up and plenty offensive for those of us who have served. These Guardians of Valor, more often than not, are bullies and assholes from the videos I've watched.

Calling people out is what we do, find a problem and fix it. I have spoken to a guy I found wandering around a car show wearing ACU pants, a beard, dog tags and a wounded warrior shirt. He claimed to be a vet on military disability after an accident or injury at boot camp. I had to explain to him that it was not appropriate to wear half a uniform out and about just 'cause. I think he'd been lead astray by his dirt bag dad, was sporting similar attire.

I see these videos from Stolen Valor all the time. The dirt bags that try and get away with being in the military and faking it should be prosecuted to the fullest extent. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but, I've always thought that anyone could wear the uniforms as long as U.S Army, or Marnine Corps, etc.... was not on that uniform.
Also, I'm not so sure that this guy has committed a Federal offense. Please don't get me wrong, I agree that no one should pretend the way that this guy seems to be doing. I have the utmost respect to anyone that's served. But no laws are broken. Let it go.

It's always difficult to watch these because you know the one's that are busted are f*cked. I get it, you want to be a serviceman/woman but probably couldn't...or, you're some POS trying to get a free lunch and accolades you don't deserve...or you think you are trying to pay us honor by adorning the "uniform". I do see it through the offenders eyes; but, what I hope (after being called out) is that they see it through ours. Raising your right hand and pledging your life to serve this great country was a personal decision we made, and simply, for whatever reason you did not. And, with that decision to serve came great responsibility...to learn how to serve, what it means to serve, and what sacrifices are made during that service and what it means to each individual that adorns their branches uniform. Pride, camaraderie, pain, happiness, heartbreak...to name a few are the things soldiers feel during their time in the service; but most of all, that brotherhood - a kindred spirit that soldiers gain for each other because of what they've done or had to do. When you adorn a "uniform" that you did not earn the right to adorn, and be apart of any of the aforementioned nouns - you do those that did earn that right a great discredit.

I have a close friend who is a medically retired Marine Gunnery Sergeant (GySgt/E-7) that has a mentally handicap nephew. His nephew recently had the Eagle Globe and Anchor (EGA) tattooed on his arm recently. My friend hit the ceiling and has since has remedied such to prevent potential repercussions such as the confronting of the idiot in this video. The point here is that while stolen Valor should never be tolerated and is in my opinion a crime is to be versed on who you are dealing with.

I just recently went into a store where a person was wearing the Army Combat Uniform (ACU) with Physical Fitness Uniform (APFU) jacket. The Army unifom items could have belonged to a member of his family past or present...the question I pose is do you not remember that group of individuals in high school who wore military uniforms that you just knew would join the military?

Most of them never ended up in any branch of our Armed Forces.

The Marine who filmed this while I am not defending anyone was a retired Lance Corporal (LCpl/E-3) who said he served 4-years on active duty! He must have been subpar for the course to not have at least been a Corporal (CPL/E-4) in that time. Not to mention the quoting of AR 670-1...both individuals filming sounded like idiots while confronting a half witted person with no real understanding of regulatory guidance.

Two wrongs do not make a right while the half witted person wearing ACU's really did not have anything on other then Army CPL Chevron's. I guess when a big kid who looks up to and admires our fighting forces or even those such as law enforcement wear military uniforms we need to confront, ridicual, browbeat, and berate them!

Seriously, if you are going to confront someone for stolen Valor make sure they are truly trying to represent being a real member of our Armed Forces and are not a special needs person like in this video.

Those of us past and present need to represent our fighting forces in a professional manner!

It's no longer a federal offense for Stolen Valor. The courts have ruled it's ok to lie about military service. Right when we thought we were making head way on this the courts ruled against the laws or government made. This is how they treat us in the military, we go put our lives on the line and these guys come along and impersonate us. The court themselves have no respect for us as does this president. That's where I think every president should have to have at least served one tour of duty so that he has some feel of what he's doing when he deploys us. This started with Bill Clinton and George Bush 43 that you didn't have to serve in the military to be president. We need to get this law changed

I feel so upset yet sad for this individual who has decided to not only make a fool of himself but dishonor persons who have served in the military. Given, I don't know many Army/Marine Corps customs and what may happen depending on deployments and Duty Stations but interesting things can happen depending what platoon/battalion/company you are with. With other vets and current service members, the hands in pockets and undershirt are red flags. Also from how the person was talking, he seemed quiet, and searching for some way to get this Marine off of him.

It's such a shame that people do this in order to get attention. I've seen it too often and honestly, I would rather have a boot shove up their butt and tell them if they want to wear this uniform, get involved and sign up. Don't taint the spirit of the military member with "faking" your way through a story. There are plenty of people out there who would do what this Marine did but honestly, I would just walk up to him and say, "It's a shame that I put my life on the line so that you can dishonor me and my fellow brothers and sisters. Save what's left of your integrity as a person and change what you are wearing."
