Family Issues and Help

If you are having issues of one form or another I have a pretty good idea how to help. Have sick children and seriously ill, there is always the Shriners Hospitals, Cancer Support Groups, and organizations like 'Give Kids the World' in Kissimee, Florida.

Give kids was founded by Henry Landswirth who was a Jewish POW survivor. He affiliation with Holiday Inn was also a plus as well as connections with Disney, Make-A-Wish and the various other Foundations that make a sick child's life a bit more bearable! And you know what? You parents and grandparents are part of the process.

I learned this while working with the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation in Tampa and running one of the largest local Fund Raisers in the State. One patient had a husband who was at his wit's end. I commiserated with him and a week later I got a phone call and she was smiling from ear to ear. Never forget significant others. You stress out together, why not play together and understand that a sick child is not a sick but a child who happens to be sick. In spite of these illnesses, they want to be normal and this is one way to do that. Just seeing the smile of a child illuminated by the Aura of Disney, is indeed Priceless!!!

SSgt Private RallyPoint Member, sounds like a great cause. Thank you for sharing.
As I've mentioned to RallyPoint members in the past, my organization - Project Sanctuary - is at the forefront of helping military and veteran families. We bring the entire family out to Colorado (and a few other locations) for a six-day, recreational therapy retreat in order to allow the whole family to reconnect. We then follow up with them for two years afterwards. No other program in the country is serving military families in this way - or at this level. We finishing up our 19th retreat later this week. Best of all, it's free for those families that need this type of therapy.

I couldn't agree with you more. Nothing puts your life in perspective like talking to a sick child with Cancer. When I was a Nurse I worked for a short time at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. To this day it still shakes me to the core to see a sick child with Cancer.
