Family Leave program

So recently I saw the Air Force put out that they are going to start a pilot program to where females may "get out" for a period up to three years for the purpose of starting a family. What is your take on this both positive and negative and do you feel that the Army should implement a program like this as well?

No. Not because I don't think family is important, I do. It's much simpler than that. I ask any of you who have been in any branch for at least 3 years one simple question.. How much has changed in the past three years? Now, we're going to let someone temporarily leave for three years and come right back in again without going back through any training?
Let them come back through a recruiter as prior service if slots are available. Just my two cents.

The Army DOES offer this...it's a pilot program.

Career Intermission Pilot Program (CIPP)

This program applies to Regular Army and the United States Army Reserve Active Guard/Reserve Soldiers, and provides temporary authority to allow Soldiers to transition from the Regular Army / United States Army Reserve Active Guard/Reserve to the IRR for a length of time not to exceed three years.

I find it odd that the Army is looking to INCREASE retention by RELEASING soldiers temporarily. It doesn't make much sense to me, but it is only a pilot program. I agree with MSG Huffman on training and mind set. One question that comes to mind is what are the consequences legal/regulation infractions? (i.e UA and AR 600-9) Maybe I think the worst of everyone but it seems like it would be too easy to get out of the Army early.
