The Navy said it will deploy enlisted female sailors in 2016 on submarines with female officers already assigned to them.

I don't have any issues with women on subs. i know one thing, though... my generation of Fast Boats would have required 100% integration... there was no extra room for "His / Hers" anything.

I'm sure that those boomers (freakin' hotels underwater, I tell ya...) could easily accommodate some form of less than 100% integration.

I admit, however, that my knowledge of submarine construction is ZERO regarding the SSN21 and Virginia class.

Anyone who can earn their dolphins would be welcome on my crew.

You mean submarines use to be strictly male? How do you tell the difference between male and female, sail, bow planes, prop???

If fully integrated, they will have very close living conditions and very little privacy. Not sure how spouses will feel knowing that their mates are sleeping right next to and changing next to a member of the opposite sex (this could have huge impacts on morale). Do we modify our subs to have separate birthing areas? No doubt females are up to doing the same job, but mixing male and female crews will be very challenging and potentially very expensive.

I have never been on a sub, but from what I have been told, how will the hot-racks and close shower quarters be handled? Spoke with a retires female MCPO, and she was not for this...
