It's extremely powerful and inspiring to see an individual escape from a country were US troops were once deployed and accomplish such a tremendous feat.

What are your thoughts?

I remember reading about him when he took over his BDE at Ft Campbell. He is very grateful to serve and I would have enjoyed the opportunity if he were my BDE CDR while with the 101st ABN DIV

Proof that America is still a land of great opportunity! This reminds me of an exhibit I saw at the US Army museum at Fort DeRussy, Oahu, HI back in 2004. It showcased GEN Shinseki's life/career, beginning with his childhood in a Japanese American Internment Camp.

One of the highlights of my last Westpac was picking up a couple of boatloads of refugees off the coast of Vietnam and taking them to the Philippines. I was on USS Rathburne (FF-1057). We split the refugees with all of the frigates in the Squadron (Desron-33) and made them as comfortable as possible for the trip.
