I was asked what I wanted to be able to drive and I told him everything on base and he did it. I didn't have to do any training or take any tests. The tracks at Fort Hood (at least in my battalion) were not equipped with personnel heaters, which made rainy January nights on a hilltop rather uncomfortable. (w/a gasoline fired heater on the left front fender). <br /><br />Nor do I remember any investigation by anyone after a tie rod on the front end came loose and caused the truck to veer into a 4' deep ditch.<br /><br />What I do remember is having to scrape road dirt and assorted crud from the underside of that truck before I could 'turn it in' as IX Corps was being inactivated.<br /><br /> We had already scrounged used pine boards and old nails to double-size our tent floor for the coming winter before we were informed of the pending inactivation.
