Been there done that, volunteered got picked-up, went to assignment, only a year in got pulled to be part of the then new combat NCO AIT instructor program, would have rather stayed on the trail.

I've been looking at for the past 8 months.  Just PCS'd to Korea now SFC, but will attempt to drop a packet from here and see what happens.  I have connected with a few Recruiters on RP and have fielded a few questions through them. I have a friend who's a Station CDR in Raleigh and an old BN CDR that was BDE CDR of AMEDD Recruiting in Knoxville, so they both gave me excellent advice as well.

I have been wanting to go Recruiting as soon as I have my first NCOER. I just lifted by stabilization code and am ready to move on to bigger and better things. I love speaking to people about the Army and the benifits that it can provide. I know it changed my life for the better and I know it can for others as well.  What all do I need to do to get the ball rolling.

Thanks for that heads up SFC Pierce.  When I went back to my saved link, I didn't see a recruiting station for HI, but I thought I recalled a few Recruiters attending EO class with me from HI.  Is that a hidden station or does it really not exist?

I have thought of submitting a packet for recruiting. I am currently at Campbell and have been here for 3 years. I am fenced in and deploying in the coming months and wanted to know when is the best time to submit my packet.<br>

I plan on volunteering and submitting my packet as soon as I hit my 1-year from DEROS date! (Jan 2015) I'm torn between going the Career Counselor or Recruiter route and I've had great feedbacks on both. If I could submit my packet now I definitely would, can I? I love taking care of not just soldiers but "people." My question is: What are the chances that I'll be able to choose a location and actually get it? I would really like to get a location in Florida or somewhere close by.

Thanks for the quick response. However, isn't that what we as soldiers/NCOs do anyway, being a single parent or not. Work long hours, weekends, holidays and etc; fill positions away from our support, be stable all around being financial, emotional, and etc. And provide a family care plan just to continue our service. And its not just recruiting that is demanding, other MOS's are as well. I know, they are not your rules and regulations and I thank you for answering.

Agree to some extent. Great insight on what some feel is the "right" NCO. Manning strength is a total different subject. And seeing what we are having to deal with in soldiers that are coming in these days I wonder what is really going on with recruiting. Is it a check the block or are we really putting in personnel that really meets the needs of the army? I've seen first hand recruiting is not an easy job! Also, I agree on the married/single soldier/single parent issues. I have had married couples as soldiers have more issues than single soldier/single parents as well. However, as a single parent myself, I always thought that was the purpose of the family care plan. But one can't be bias to what we feel will work for everyone. Again, thanks for the insight.

I submitted my packet after branch told me they were considering me for DA selection. Completed the entire packet and submitted it as directed. I got the email from RTR (Recruit the Recruiter team) stating that they received my packet and it was processing however got another email from branch stating I was on orders for another assignment. I'm confused because branch just told me they were going to release me for recruiting duty and then put me on orders. With that being said I talked with branch again and they are waiting on the next "recruiting mission" to determine my school date since I'm OCONUS and my DEROS is Sept of this year. I don't know what "recruiting mission" means as they weren't really specific. In a nutshell from what my 1SG told me, My current assignment is basically a filler for if I am selected, recruiter takes presence over that assignment. If the "recruiter mission comes out and they don't need me, then my current assignment is a definite. The packet wasn't a hassle but it's crazy how orders work. I guess I can't do nothing now but wait for a response from both RTR and branch on if I'm going or not.

I am at Ft Bragg and i have a family member on the EFMP, that will be a problem to apply for recruiting duty? i will love to stay in NC and do my duty in Fayetteville or Spring Lake.

SFC Pierce, I have been talking to several people in the past few weeks about my current job, and ones available to me. With the med board process not being started yet and still pending surgeries. I still have plenty of time to pull all of my resources together and make required rank to volunteer. My question for you would be, I know I am going to have to get a COAD. How would that effect my volunteering status, if at all?

Yes I have. I am going to need a special assignment. I like the idea of going recruiting after this assignment. I spent a few years as a door to door saleswoman so I think this is something I can do. Not trying to compare, It is more of the sales aspect. I have looked up the requirements such as GT score but cannot find anything. Perhaps I am searching in the wrong place. Where can I find the requirements so I can be ready? Other than ALC and my P status, what would you recommend I prepare myself with?

SFC,

I have flirted with the idea of going recruiting, but my current assignment (joint) and previous were TDA units. I have been told by other NCOs that to much time in TDA unit may hinder promotion opportunities.

However, if it doesn't I would like try to submit a packet. Also, I would like to know what are the chances that I can be slotted as a 79RL (language qualified slot)?

I would actually love to do it, but I'm in an Instructor/Writer slot at the moment, so unfortunately two back to back special duty assignments are a no no... Perhaps in a few years.

Why is it so hard for former recruiters to come back? When I was out there they wouldn't let any convert. I was a very successful recruiter receiving all awards to include medallion but they still wouldn't let anyone stay.

I recently Submittied my volunteer packet and was accepted by USAREC but my Branch (MP) told me that there was no school slots available before my PCS (October 2014). Is this a real thing considering recruiting is currently a hot assignment?

I am very interested in volunteering for recruiting. I was wondering though, if the packet has to be typed or can it be hand written? Also, I've been told by a few people that I must be a SSG before going but I find it nowhere on the RTR site. My last question is, how does one get promoted in a recruiter setting if they are not already Promotable?

Currently my report for school is 8 June 15. I went to your facebook page as you suggested, and my question is would it be better for me to fill out and submit my commander packet now to include a mental health eval, and just get a new mental evaluation completed down the road as I get within six months of my school date in order to get a chance at getting an assignment sooner than my second week of school with the mind set being that I won't have an opportunity to receive the assignment email until after the packet is submitted?

Good morning. I have a couple questions. I am cuurently assigned OCONUS and have submitted my RtR packet last month. I am now withing the 12 months from DEROS window and just received an email with a ATRRS course reservation for APR 2016, but my DEROS/ETS is FEB2016. When will I be put on assignment and be able to reenlist for this assignment?

Also, and preety important, when do I find out which of my assignment selections I will be going to..

Best assignment choice I could have made. Awarded Gold badge and 3 saphires in 19 months and before I even went before E-7 board. Spent 4 years in Cincinnati with 1 year as nurse recuriter for north Ohio. Went to the CG too inform him that I had forgotten what it was like in the active army and was given my choice of assignments ( choose Europe in 1980). Loved it ans was well treated

It is a real good idea. I volunteered and wanted Raleigh NC but available posted were decided by how you finished in the class, top in class, first pick. I finished 2nd and was given the choice of Santa Anna Ca or Cincinnati, Oh. I picked Cincinnati as it was closer to Raleigh. I spent 3 years in Cincinnati as field recruiter and then 1 and a half years in Cleveland Oh as Nurse recruiter. I was promoted from Staff Sergeant to Sergeant First Class. As a field recruiter, I earned The Gold recruiter badge with three Sapphires. and I had time enough to graduate from Urbana University with a BS degree. Same choice! without a doubt..............

I have a question. I recently left USAREC after opting to not convert and to be frank, I miss it. I understand I have to be on station for twelve months before I can reapply, but what is the likelyhood of being selected to return to recruiting? Thanks for any advice and answers.

I went on the Recruit the Recruiter webpage a few months back, and I was told that at the present moment USAREC is not accepting any prior Recruiters. Does the statement hold any truth, and if so are there plans for it to change? I am planning on dropping my packet in March when I will have the required 12 months at current assignment. I realize that I should have converted to in 2013 when I was there.
