For those who are retired or discharged, if you could, would you reenlist to help Israel in their time of need?

Watching the news the other day at breakfast with my daughter and her mother (we are friends and get along) she saw that I wasn't my usual chatty self and asked why I looked so focused and tense. I told her to look at the TV behind her. She then asked if I would have to go back in. I told her I stand ready always at my countrys call if she should need me. I shall always be a Marine, a defender of the weak and oppressed. Even more so as a Christian.

As A Christian I Look At Israel As A Holy Land And It Should Be Defended At All Costs.
I Look At The Jewish Faith As The Mother Of Christianity . We Share Many Of The Same Beliefs.
If I Was 30 Years Younger I Would Be On A Plane To Israel As Soon As Possible To Offer What Ever Help I Could Give To Defend The People Of The Holy Land.
Since I Am Not 30 Years Old I Will Pray For The People Of Israel.

No. Nor should anyone else, IMO.

I *will* go back in to defend America. But not another country. For those who feel that strongly about Israel, go join THEIR military. Or go as a mercenary, like a ton of folks have done with Ukraine.

But join OUR military to defend Israel? Not so much.

When you join a US Armed Service, you take the following Oath of Enlistment. "I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed ...
Nothing in the Oath addresses helping Israel... Therefore, you cannot specifically reenlist to help Israel in their time of need.

Before anybody runs off into a Holy War they need to read their history. The Holy Land is called that because it is Holy to a lot of people. Not just Jews and Christians. Plus that History research would also uncover that there is a major Christian Community in Palestinian areas. I was stationed in Jerusalem for a year and it's easy to get caught up in the media hype but when you slow down and look at not only the history but recent history from the last 20-30 years it is eye opening. There are way more innocent lives living in Gaza and the West Bank than combatants. Not everyone there is a steely eyed killer. Most of them just want to live, work and worship just like the rest of us. And honestly that can be said for alot of folks in Israel too. This situation is layered and complex and is way more complicated than them vs us. Just do a little reading before you jump into the fray. But if you are super keen on fighting for Israel there are tons of former American servicemembers who join the IDF. I ran into a lot while there.

If you want to go on your own to fight with IDF - go ahead. No one is stopping you. But you do so at your own risk. Reenlisting wouldn't get you to be deployed to Israel to "help" them in their "time of need."

"Defender of the weak and oppressed..." except those in the US who are being oppressed by our own government right? Only a defender of those who share your same ideologies?

I would have to see a direct and imminent threat to the US. Of course, I don't have to worry about it anyway, not much use for an 81-year-old REMF.

Israel, not so much. Both sides are guilty of treating the other poorly. That doesn't justify Hamas recent action against civilians. Ukraine IMHO is a more worthy cause.

As a Christian first and a retired soldier second I find the desire to respond with Israel comes from a higher command than the US Army. Generally speaking, (I said generally), only Christians and Jews would understand that. I believe that of all the once great civilizations or empires or peoples of history, the Jews are the only ones that have survived from the beginning, and Christians shall be their support should they ask for it. Israel is wanting to pay for thier Military aid as opposed to Ukraine that can't even account for where the money is.
