Talking about it. I've "vented" on here and I felt better for a minute or two. It feels good when your peers give you advice or additional coping skills to use that you've never heard of before. MAJ Ken Langdon has a paper about PTSD he wrote and it was VERY good. COL Mikel Burroughs is a damn good man, I was told by my supervisor to read "Who stole my cheese". It's a very short book, but in it, there are lots of pictures (you know Soldiers can't read), but the messages in the book are what will get you. I read that and MAJ Langdons paper and was blown away. Outside of that, I use "retail therapy" to cope. I love cars and motorcycles, so I use my energy (and LOTS of money) to get them where I want them to be. Also on FB I subscribed to TenShakesofGrace. It's about twi GSD's and a bird living in Maine. Then there's the German Sheppard Community where again it;s all about the dogs. They help keep me in line when I'm really stressed.

MSG James Crowell - There are a lot of vets like you, you are not alone. Vets who feel they cannot be in public or in certain areas. The most important thing is that you connect with someone you can talk to about it. You have to work on this one small step at a time. The important thing is that you find a program that works for you and allows you to interact with others and gets you out of your isolation.

I hear you, I commend you for bringing up this painful reality, telling you time heals seems like putting you off but each step you take is the journey to healing. You have to take the steps and you are. Talk, focus on possibilities, options, this is a personal and individual journey that no one can "tell you" what is best.
