Winter is nearly at the half-point. A severe cold front was forecast for much of the northeast with sub-zero weather in NY City predicted. I hope that you have not been severely impacted by the winter weather; but, I expect many have been impacted.

I'm not really sure how it affected us as I'm currently on leave back home in South Louisiana. Will find out when we fly back to New York tomorrow and then drive in to Connecticut the next day.

This afternoon my wife and I drove from Sterling, Virginia to Martinsburg, WV. In the early afternoon the countryside was blanketed with a couple inch coat of white which reminded me of Ermine fur. We stopped to get a bite to eat and the snow turned to freezing rain. We drove to visit one of our sons who lives in Martinsburg near the VA Medical Center that serves as my primary treatment center. On the way back the weather turned worse. The windshield wiper keeping getting covered up with ice which streaked the windshield instead of cleaning it. I stopped a couple times to clear the windshield wipers. It took us twice as long to get home as it did to get to Martinsburg. The car slid a couple times while driving and skidded a few times as I pumped the brakes to slow down and stop. The local school system will be closed tomorrow giving the kids a four day weekend.

Do you ever just make a portal instead of removing all the snow from your windshield?

TSgt Kenneth Ellis - I am not sure what you mean. The ice was forming on the windshield as we drove along the highways. It was too cold to be snowing and the precipitation turned to frozen rain.

My nephew got a ticket once. You know how snow accumulation on the windshield. Instead of removing it all he made a round circle.
