Yes at FOB Danger it was over the Guard towers, more to make it harder for Snipers to acquire targets, and to offer some shade.

There was this little Patrol Base, PB Minden, that had camo netting above the areas that involved the TOC and sleeping tents. The shade was just a beneficial side product.

LTC Marc King - On that particular base, if memory serves, the netting was of a tan color, but it didn't particularly match the terrain. The desert of Iraq was of a tan that didn't match anything the Army had. And since the base was in a very flat area, anyone and everyone could tell something was there.

MSG (Join to see) - Thanks again. That is what I am looking for... And thanks for serving!

Obscuration is still a substantial benefit, MSG (Join to see). Knowing something is there is nowhere near as useful as having clear, unimpeded visibility of each person entering or exiting a tent.

LTC Marc King - We used them for the same types of things. It didn't obscure visibility out since you were so close to the netting. The farther away you get from it, the more it obscures.

Obscured visibility from out to in. As LT stated, to make it difficult to see if a tower was occupied and our positions in the tower. The netting was woodland green for our posts at the gate and at our outposts, but tan for the towers at the FOB. The terrain made it impossible to conceal our towers at the out post-- open desert with a nearby town. Our FOB was one of the palaces, so there wasn't any concealment there either. Lol
