Can anyone provide me with details of how long of a process it is? The likelihood of getting approved?

I have my company and battalion commanders verbal approval. This can be tricky as the guard has already sunk money into you possibly with ROTC and/or schooling and would not want to give up such an asset.

The only thing I can say is to try and see what happens. They opened it up to LTs in all basic branches last year. That’s how I was able to transfer. They might open it again depending on the need.
