However the job of president does not want someone who learn on the job. Especially when someone has no experience foreign-policy or military issues. I would expect Hillary Rodham Clinton would have a better grasp on foreign policy than many because she was Secretary of State; but, her grasp has probably slipped.
Candidate Obama did not have a strong grasp on foreign policy other than his intention to end all the wars from the previous administration.
A good President is one who knows his strengths and weaknesses and picks great advisors while he/she drinks from the firehose, so to speak, after being elected. At a certain point each president has become masterful in foreign policy in many areas.
President Reagan is a prime example. The former governor of California had strong principles which guided him through the many who thought detente made more sense than confrontation with the Soviet Union.
I think Ben Carson has strong moral principles which will guide him. He has a keen in telecet and as a neurosurgeon learned to think on his feet and make timely decisions in critical situations. LTC Stephen F.
