I'm from Paducah, which is an hour and half (give or take) West of it. Been there plenty of times due to Father's deployments, but now its my turn to actually serve there. Just wondering what life is like, how the units are, etc. Fort Campbell, what to expect (from an MP perspective)? 2016-04-06T04:38:46-04:00 SGT Private RallyPoint Member 1432868

Just wanting to gather some outside unit views on what life is like at Campbell for an MP. The 7 plus years that I spent with the 101st ABN DIV are some of the best years I have had in the military, and they were some of the roughest too. The Division maintains a good battle rhythm with their cycles and you will see a little bit of everything from the field to the desk and plenty of road time.
There are a lot of young Soldiers there and they are full of Hoooah and moral, that can tend to lead to silliness and keep you busy. Good luck and enjoy your time. Wasn't the case while I was there, but once I left I started missing it immediately. I can't speak on the "MP" life there, I was in a BCT. Both of my sons joined the Army as well. I can't really speak to what it's like on Campbell for the junior enlisted other than I gave my folks the best barracks I could and a predictable schedule. What they did with their off-duty time was their business- to the best degree possible. The area is great and there are excellent opportunities for civilian education. I recommend as soon as you get your feet on the ground, get over to Hopkinsville Community College and get enrolled in something toward a degree. Your time will go fast and you will be a Sergeant before you know it. It will just get tougher and tougher to find time for school as you move up the ranks.
Good luck!
Dave Litteral Response by CSM David Litteral made Apr 6 at 2016 10:28 AM 2016-04-06T10:28:54-04:00 2016-04-06T10:28:54-04:00 SSG Private RallyPoint Member 1433573

It was great when I was there, it was my first duty station. I PCS a year and a half ago. It's close to Nashville which is where most Soldiers tent to go on the weekend. Depending on the unit during your three day and four day weekends you can drive to several place like Atlanta, St. Louis, Louisville, Gatlingburg and so on. As far as being in the MP unit I know you will be working different shifts, we did a few class for the MP unit while I was there. But other than that I was in a Combat Operational Stress Control unit that fell under the Combat Support Hospital there. It will be nice that you can visit family only being an hour away. Hope you like it there, I know I enjoyed it. Hopefully they have gone out of business, but if not, they are disease filled cesspools. I was a medic and most of the STD cases in our battalion originated from those three businesses. I was with the 716th from 09-12. Know how to climb a rope and be prepared to go to Air Assault school immediately. It is an expectation that every Soldier go to the school unless they have a medical condition that prevents it. They currently have 4 line MP Companies and 1 MP Detachment. Just like FLW the MP's would man the main the main gates and work the road. Before I left the BC was trying to have the Companies on a Red, Amber and Green cycle. I am not sure if it ever happened though. Also due to the BCT MP's going away, each company is assigned a BCT that they support. But all around its ok be ready for air assault school. The field road rotations weren't that bad may have to work a gate or 2. But other than that the road isn't that bad there the occasional verbal domestic, you know the norm for any army post that deployed alot. Best of luck to you.
