Fox Announces the GOP Debate Participants. Any surprises?

Fox just announced who's in Thursday's debates. There had been some grumblings that Trump would be excluded, but it looks like that's not going to the case.

Anyone else surprised to see they made room for Christie and Kasich? 10 seems...excessive.

Politics with our current two party system have become a farce. It is no longer about working together for the betterment of all your constiuents it is about working to get yourself re-elected.

You cannot have a debate between 10 participants. You cannot even have a discussion between 10 participants. Hell, you can't even have a meeting with 10 participants.

This is "theater."

I'm disappointed Gov. Perry didn't make the cut. He's strong on immigration and would likely quiet the Donald on that issue. Same for Senator Graham, who likely would stand up to Trump regarding the sickening comments Trump made about Senator McCain.

I appreciate that they shared their methodology (average of five most recent national polls). I find both Kasich and Huckabee to be surprising. I don't see how either would score that high among the R base. I could see Huckabee during the last election, but given how poorly he performed, I am surprised that he still has enough of a base to make the cut.

Personally, I would have made the cut at 6 or 8. However, at this point, I can see the logic in including more. It is way too early in the season for anyone to have a lock on who the final contenders will be. I have my suspicions for who the top 4 will shake out to be and even who the general election team will be (and who it SHOULD BE! :-) ), but most people aren't even aware of who the candidates are at this point. I guarantee that at least 20% of the population thinks that McCain is running.

SGT Jeremiah B. - Sergeant; If each potential candidate is given seven minutes to speak and then three minutes to rebut what each of the other potential candidates has said then the program will be five hours long (not counting commercials), or seven hours long (counting commercials - if no PAC commercials are permitted), or 12 hours long (counting commercials - if PAC commercials are permitted).

The program could possibly be FOX's greatest rating disaster in history unless we can convince the potential candidates to actually start throwing punches at each other. (If they haul out their 2nd Amendment Rights and start blazing away, then Fox will have a sure-fire winner.)

17 GOP candidates and 10 make a "debate". While I enjoy real debate, what we do in our modern debates is not debate at all. It is a controlled press conference with canned answers to questions by mostly, well rehearsed politicians (both parties primary debates are this way). Everyone is trying to create a great one liner that will catapult them in the polls. There is very little interest or way to have a real debate of any issue with 10 participants.

The value of this "debate" is to see how Trump fares against actual politicians (mostly). Can he hold his ground on geopolitical issues, foreign policy etc. or will he make a number of gaffs? Will Trump take a swing at some of these career politicians that have had a lifetime to get something done and have little to show for it.

It will definitely be bucket of popcorn kind of night.

I feel like the candidates are just going to focus on saying something that makes the headlines of the news media the next day. Since they won't be able to get many words in on any of the specific issues.

To be worth anything the debate would have to be a 8 hour event if not longer, with 10 candidates.
