I tend to look forward so I can understand what is best for my career. My question is should I try to go to Ft. Bragg or Ft. Campbell next. With the Army down sizing I believe schools will be more important as the Army looks for who will make the best leaders. In the way of Troop Schools and general military life would it be better to go to Fort Bragg NC or Ft. Campbell KY.
And yes I'm interested in both Airborne and Air Assault.
Ft. Bragg or Ft. Campbell for 5 years now, I hated it at first, because I was very closed minded. Once I stopped listening to the negative input around me, my entire perspective changed. It's like I said, it's all what YOU make of it. I was station at Campbell and EVERYONE that went there after being over seas said it was the worst post they had ever been too. That was in the early 90's. Only had one station and it was there. It used to be chapter central for the army. I loved and hated it at hte same time. But then again I was Infantry! It just opens up more doors for future assignments. I would recommend going Airborne regardless of which duty station you choose. AA will do nothing for future assignments unless you eventually want to go back/to 101st and even then it is not a guarantee. Airborne positions are always looking for Airborne qualified soldiers, they will send you to school in route, but you are way more likely to get the slot if you are already qualified. Calling branch and already being qualified is a huge plus compared to asking for the funds to go to a school just to fill a slot.

To my knowledge their are only two types of units in the Army, Airborne and Non Airborne. By going Airborne you can go to any unit in the Army (other pre reqs may apply obviously), but with Airborne you cant go wrong.

Just my humble opinion with some facts thrown in!!
Response by SGT Private RallyPoint Member made Mar 5 at 2014 9:48 PM 2014-03-05T21:48:51-05:00 2014-03-05T21:48:51-05:00 SFC Private RallyPoint Member 70534

Well, I was stationed at Ft. Campbell for my last duty station, and I absolutely loved it there. I think life on post is probably going to be similar between the two. I have never been stationed at Ft. Bragg, so I am not 100% sure, but this is based on what I have heard from Soldiers who have been stationed at both. I will say that I think the off-post areas around Ft. Campbell are better, both on the KY and TN side. I spent a couple months at Ft. Bragg and did not like "Fayettenam" very much. Since I was only there a couple months, I didn't get to see all that NC had to offer, but I do think there was more to do in TN/KY, especially for those with families. But just how you posed the question, I would go to Bragg and go Airborne. It don't matter if you have 5 jumps or 50 jumps. As long as that ERB says Airborne on it, the door will be opened. Plus they just stood up an Air Assault School at Bragg as well, so go to Bragg Response by SSG Private RallyPoint Member made Apr 9 at 2014 11:37 AM 2014-04-09T11:37:40-04:00 2014-04-09T11:37:40-04:00 SSG Christopher Freeman 99340

I have been at Bragg for a year and it's a great place to be.
