Maybe because I am a father of 2 girls, maybe because I have been in the Army for 9 years and undergone numerous degrees of POSH/Rape Prevention/SHARP training and, oftentimes, I get tired of hearing the same information getting regurgitated time and time again. But, apparently, we are not getting the message.

If you read the article below, you will see that an NCO has been convicted of Sexual Assault on a minor, and there are two more Soldiers awaiting court-martial. Also, this is at least the 7th case of the nature.

http://www.military.com/daily-news/2014/11/07/army-convicts-soldier-of-sexually-assaulting-minor.html?comp= [login to see] 004&rank=2

Army Convicts Soldier of Sexually Assaulting Minor

Another Fort Sill soldier has been convicted of sexually assaulting a child.

Mon, 10 Nov 2014 10:37:51 -0500 Ft. I think it demonstrates that we (as a military force) are a reflection of the population from which we come. I don't know if sexual assault on children is higher in the military than in the civilian population, but it's a tragedy wherever it occurs. Because it is so "out there," we usually hear about it.

Almost 30 years ago, a colleague (counterintelligence warrant officer - CW2) who I thought I knew fairly well turned out to be one of these kinds of guys. When he went to Korea on an unaccompanied tour, his daughter had the courage to tell Mommy that Daddy had been touching her inappropriately. He went from Korea to the Disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth. The scary part of that for me was that his kids and our kids were friends and used to play together. Fortunately, he never did anything to our children. CW5 Private RallyPoint Member Mon, 10 Nov 2014 14:20:42 -0500 2014-11-10T14:20:42-05:00 Response by CSM Michael J. Some of these crimes were committed against children under the age of 12 years old, those victims have lost their innocence and their childhood is probably completely destroyed - how can the child trust an adult? Give these criminals to the parents, these pieces of $$$$ deserve to get more than the max sentence! CSM Michael J. I believe that it is also a slippery slope at certain installations for what people feel they can get away with because of the "network." I am not trying to say that people were not going to let the accused get away with these actions. I am saying that had other individuals been properly punished it might have, again might have given these sick individuals a moment of pause to reconsider there actions.
It is time that we get away from the Good Ole Boy network, and treat all people according to their strengths and weaknesses. These are serious weaknesses by these individuals and I would say the organizations that harbor these individuals. We need to make a change to the systemic problem here, not just wave our hand at the problem and say "everything is going to be better now."
