Geneva Convention--status of "rank" for captives

This question differs from one suggesting a civilian rank equivalency for military service. ID Card regs cite a Geneva Convention chart that "ranks" captured military and civilian personnel. Civilians often cite that chart and another used for protocol and logistics accommodations. In those charts a GS9 outranks an E9 and some other officials for the purposes of captivity, not necessarily by Protocol . A GS11 might rate higher accomodations...an accredited News Media reporter in a war zone might be given a "simulated rank" of a Field Grade or higher Equiv....a GS15 or contractor equiv rates COL or BG rank....your thoughts?

I think that our current crop of enemies will never respect the Geneva Convention, but it's always good to be prepared for another army vs army war like WW2, for example.

I don't think a media reporter has any business being treated like a POW, but I guess if we're embedding them in units, they should have some sort of status.
