Geology Major wants to join the Military. What rating could he fill and use that training?

My son wants to join the service once he gets his associate's degree in Geology. Exploring his options at this point. He wants the experience in the service before getting his Bacholar degree.

Resume:
Eagle Scout
4 years heavy machinery training
3 years working his way through school for as gun smith in training.

Is there a job he can do in any branch of the service as a geologist or would he be put in the armory?

The army engineering jobs will do, Check ft leonard wood websites, we have carpenters, bull dozer drivers and so on..

The only thing that geology even relates to in the Army that I am aware of is Engineering, which has already been said twice.

Enlist in the reserves/NG as an engineering Soldier, Then join ROTC and get a commission as an engineering officer, they are way behind on their STEM quotas.

A lot of officers have basket weaving degrees and they get paid well. Shouldn't be an issue whatever he decides to do.

I would say army side 35G. Promotions are stable and he wouldnt be doing much of the BS tasks that get thrown around. Also it would look good on a resume and opens a door to continue his education with experience in that field if he wants to continue it. It would also walk him into a security clearance which is a big power throw in the civilian world.

I am a geologist who served in the Marines and worked for the Feds. Good job choice, geologists are always needed and paid well.

Honestly, I’d recommend that he not enlist at all.
