The US *IS* being viewed more favorably around the world now than it was at the beginning of this century. The US is respected more and feared less. To me, THAT is progress worth continuing. We are on the cusp of an emerging world-market and world-centric (as opposed to nation-centric) society and we cannot continue to hold on to nationalistic ideals forever if we wish to be a part of that society. We can either adapt or be left behind as many past nations and peoples have discovered.
