I just finished AIT PSG duty... So take all the comments and consider the source.

As a MOS-T you will have a lot more freedom than the IET soldiers. But if you are authorised to have your dependants accompany you depends on the length of the AIT.

If it's too short, I know a lot of my MOS-T soldiers would put their household goods in storage and have the family stay in a long-term hotel or apartment near the post.

Remember that your first priority is to reclassify and I saw a lot of soldiers get to wrapped up with family issues and fail the course. As much as it sucks, sometimes having them a little ways away let's you focus better. (Remember that you will have long weekends now and again they can come visit you, or that you can ask for a pass for and travel to them)

I read the policy letter in regards to housing in Fort Gordon; however, the difficulty is the fact that I am a special reclass, I am going to AIT as an MOS-T, and my orders are PCS orders and not TDY or TCS orders. Thank you for taking the time

Depends on what MOS you are reclassing to and if you are married. My first MOS was 94F and I went to AIT there at Gordon. Because the course was longer than 6 months, it was considered a PCS. I moved my family to Augusta and only spent a few weeks in the barracks ( long enough to phase up). Once I had phased up, they allowed me to move out of the barracks. We had a few reclass soldiers in my class. Those that were unaccompanied/single stayed in the reclass barracks. Those that were married and moved their families were allowed to reside off post from the start (no phase up as a reclass).

SGT Benjamin Scoggins, Looks as though this is over a year old. How did it go? Did your Reclass go well? were you relegated to the barracks? Or are you married and the school was a year long?
