While I can't see the video at work, I can certainly regale what my first 2 hours of BCT was. It involved a company wide CIF issue shake-down in the gym. We went item by item. In one hand was the duffle. In the other, was what ever item we had to find. Then once we were checked that we found the right item we were to place it in the bag and then hold the bag (with only one hand) in the air until the next item was called. Did I mention that we had to go one item at a time? And at no time was any DS NOT yelling.

Some memories, but mine was a bit different. It was zero dark thirty at Parris Island some 30+ years ago. I recall the DI saying something to the effect you have three heart beats to get off my bus and two are gone.....

Whether it was 50 or 5 years ago. Marine Corps boot camp is an experience a Marine will never forget. Not everyone can handle it and I will not hold it against you. Okay that was a lie, I will! Oorah Marine Corps!!!!

We arrived at 2 a.m., so we had to do that in the morning. I remember a kid getting pulled out from my flight in week 3, in handcuffs, due to snorting about an 8 ball of cocaine. Other than that, basic wasn't too horrible. I met some good people, whom I still call friends.

I doubt anyone who has ever experienced it could ever forget their first few hours aboard either MCRD. Hell, we can all recall now that the initial shock of the Receiving Barracks pale in comparison to what awaited us upon arrival at our Training Companies for what has become known as 'Forming'. It is from the blurs of this controlled chaos that the the eternal emotion of the Marine will emerge on graduation day; and the memories of boot camp will live forever.

Honestly. Looking back. I really enjoyed Boot Camp. The night before we walked across the parade deck to earn our EGA's. My D.I. told us all "No matter what you do in life. You will always be a U.S. Marine. This is such a great thing to have earned. But do not make it your greatest achievement in your life" That really spoke to me. I really took to heart. A few years later I ran into my D.I. out in the fleet. I told the Gunny how his words of inspiration and motivation had such a big impact on how I look at and will perceive life going into the future. He looked at me and laughed and said "That is the same line of sh*t I gave every Platoon on Graduation Night"

I will never forget the yellow foot prints at Paris Island South Carolina, one way in, one way out. Full metal jacket brought back a lot of memories for me.

first 2 hours, that did not stop for 3 months, 9 DI,s (3 where busted for violence) and three they said rotated out, I just dont think they could take us anymore. any way I was in boot in 73 and another poster hit it correctly, full metal jacket was very accurate.

While actually living it, it was not always fun, but the memories are all good. I was 17 when I went to Boot camp at P.I. A lot of what I learned in boot and the F.M.F. has played a key role in all of my successes in life.

After 3 days of terror, I found that I kind of liked Boot Camp. I loved MCRD San Diego, and also went through Radio School there. The memories fade over time, but will stay will you forever. Once a Marine, Always a Marine. Semper Fi!

I will always remember MCRD Parris Island SC & the changes there after the Ribbon Creek incident. Several DIs were relieved of duty after a congressional investigation that revealed mistreatment of recruits.
