Good books for 11B?

As an 11B what are some good books & study guides that I should purchase to help me in my MOS other than the ranger handbook.

Not specific to being a Boo but a really solid read is Robert Coram’s Boyd: The Fighter Pilot Who Changed the Art of War. Be careful though, you get caught reading and you’re going to be in for it, lol.

NO book can teach you how to be a grunt. Learn and absorb the NCO's above you. They might not be right, but it's a decision they made. Be a sponge and watch, learn, listen and don't act like a fool and know everything.

Google "Enlisted Infantry Reading List" and look for the lists for soldiers and junior NCOs. I would start with the following:

* We Were Soldiers Once, and Young, by LTG Hal Moore & Joey Galloway (the book, not the movie)
* To Hell and Back, Audie Murphy
* The Face of Battle, John Keegan
* History of the Militia and National Guard, John Mahon

TC 3-22.9 or TC 3-22.249... I see your a M240 Gunner so most def TC 3-22.240 other than that Ranger hand book ATP 3-21.8 INFANTRY PLATOON AND SQUAD
and just learn about being a Soldier .. right place right time right uniform... learn about Army programs.. study leadership both good and bad and develop yourself enjoy Germany

Those two things on your face and the two things on the side of your head. Look and listen. I was a medic and when we went to the field I would ask the 11B's questions about everything. Especially the senoir nco's. I learned how to shoot everything they shot, do everything they did, I learned. When they had the EIB, I received an Arcom because I completed the course and because I wasn't combat arms. Then I got my EFMB. You can't get everything from a book.

FM 7-8(or whatever they call it now)
Ranger Handbook is a great field guide but the FM gives a lot more detail.
Read the manuals for all the weapon systems, commo, and other gear
Professional reading list should include Blackhawk Down, We Were Soldiers Once and Young, East of Chosin, Vegetius, The Prince, Soldat, Band of Brothers, The Greatest Generation, Gates of Fire, The Afghan Campaign, Blundering to Glory, Recondo, Musashi, The Killer Angels, Mike Force, Jarhead and, of course, The Art of War.

been out for a while and things change over time, but I will give you some references to start with - the Infantry Bible - AR 7-8, and The Soldiers Book of Common Tasks. Not sure what each is called now, but the 7-8 gives you a truckload of information about your MOS specifically, and SBoCT gives you a truckload of information about what you should be proficient in individually by skill level. Skill levels are determined by rank, with skill level 1 being E-1 to E-4, skill level 2 E-5, skill level 3 E-6 etc etc. You should also be reading the TM for the weapon systems you will most likely be utilizing, M-4, M249, and the M240B, if you are in a Stryker Brigade, then the TM's for the Stryker and Hummer - Basically the equipment that you will be using every minute when in a deployed status.

I've been out for a minute, but the best investment I made was when I bought a Promotion Board trivia game. It was a set of cards like you see in trivia pursuit. It was broken down by MOS and different boards. They will help you throughout your career and give you great ideas for Sergeant's Time Training.
