I am currently a PSG in the Ft Benning Air Ambulance Detachment. First, you will need to pass a flight physical. After this, you will need to attend the flight medic courses through Fort Sam and Fort Rucker. One class is to become a paramedic, one class is your critical care course, the third class is the aviation crewmember course. Once you have done the above, you will be assigned a flight medic role in a General Aviation Supporr Battalion of a Combat Aviation Brigade.

Things I would be doing if I were in your shoes:
-get an in depth understanding of anatomy and physiology
-start learning about pharmacodynamics to help with pharmacology
-log into milsuite and find the medevac doctrine S.M.O.G (our protocols/guidelines book).

Hopefully this helps. Feel free to reach out to me via global
bruce.m.stack.mil....
Best of luck brother

Thank you for taking the time to give us insight SSG, this response is actually what I was looking for to get some sort of starting point. I'm not trying to play catch up when I get to the school house.

Right now I'm using my GI bill for nursing, and working security. I was told using my emt licence will get me some valuabe experiance, but not sure if it will translate to paramedic calls.

SGT (Join to see) Any experience in EMS is good experience. Even working part time will give you an idea of what enroute care is like. And if you end up on an ALS truck even better. Working around paramedics, particularity ones that are fresh out of paramedic school, will give you the best idea of what you'll be heading into. Just like any army school, if you want to know the latest on a particular School, ask the guy that just graduated from it.

What kind of prep? I'm not a medic, but used to be a 15N and worked closely with Dustoff in the past.

My understanding is the pipeline is set up in three parts, paramedic, critical care, and flight training. Really I would like to know what to study before I start paramedic school and anything else I should prepare for before arriving to the school house.
