Politicians waver in whatever direction the "is it good for me" wind is blowing. I agree with SFC J. Fullerton that the "establishment" probably pushed this, but for a different reason. Pence has been a darling of the Koch brothers who have been withholding support from the GOP so far this election year. IMO the "establishment" is hoping that having Pence on the ticket will open the Koch brothers coffers again. As the saying goes; the truth is usually somewhere down the money trail.

I think the so called "establishment" probably pushed Trump to choose him, as well as pushed Pence to accept it, in order to give some credibility to the ticket and give their endorsements.

For me, it's assumed most politicians will say whatever that serves their purpose. We have lost the true measure of statesmanship particularly in the last few years where compromise for the good of the country was lost. In this "all or none" mindset where selfishness rules the day, the American public gets the short end of the stick, primarily because we tolerate it. So those in either party who take the extreme view by saying "my way or the highway", we're looking at you...YOU are the problem.

LTC (Join to see) - Well said. To further my (our?) position, I'd suggest we find a way to get the influence of money out of politics. Too many politicians cater to the interests of the big (and controlling) money donors either directly or indirectly because without that support the other person wins. "Serving the people" has now become to mean serving the donors who "paid for" the election. Removing the controlling donors allows the average person to run and serve the needs of the people as opposed to special interests in my view. Although I don't think America needs someone to make it great again (it still is in most respects), the best way to improve our chances of remaining great is to enable the politicians to do the right thing for the good of the country. Just my humble opinion.

Lt Col Timothy Parker, DBA - Thank you Sir for your service as well. SCOTUS gave us the worse decision ever with politics when the equated money to the 1st admendment. Hopefully we can get this decision overturned, so the common man/woman can run for office and not go broke. I ran for a local election in 2008 and it cost over $75k which is ridiculous.

And I definitely agree that America is already great and someone as bombastic as him will not make it great again.
