Welcome to Rally Point. I am curious about your thoughts regarding recognition of all 7 Uniformed Services that contribute to the security of this nation. The two little known services (Public Health Service and NOAA Commissioned Corps) who work alongside their sister services (Navy, Army, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard) daily however receive little to no recognition for their contributions and have to fight for funding and benefits.

The Public Health Service (PHS) has been around for over 200 years and provides direct medical care to service members of all 7 Uniformed Services to include mental health and physical therapy to our wounded warriors. The PHS has medical providers stationed at numerous military medical treatment facilities, aboard Coast Guard and NOAA ships, and deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan alongside their sister services.

It appears the main culprit is the legislative language when defining benefits or recognition, such as using Armed Forces or Military vs. Uniformed Services. This language has delayed certain VA benefits such as the ability to transfer the GI Bill for education to family members, until such time the language was later changed through constant requests for equal recognition to include all 7 Uniformed Services.

Gov Bush, as a veteran living in transitional housing for homeless veterans, what would you do to help homeless veteran. The current VA system is overwhelmed and lacks structure in my opinion. As an example, my medical treatment is at one VA hospital, but the facility I live in is run by another. They do not communicate with each other and prefer I move my medical services to the hospital who is responsible for the administration of the program. By doing this I would need to reestablish new primary care doctor, mental health care, and since I want to relocate out of Chicago I would then need to transfer my care back to my original hospital. Homeless veterans have been overlooked for too long. The VA need restructuring, but the homelessness of veterans need attention as well.

Governor Jeb Bush Personally I am not impressed with the business as usual that seems to be the norm in Washington these days. What are your plans to clean up the corruption in Washington?

What will you do to fix the Exchange system? Before the Clinton administration, the Exchange (BX/PX) was a fair deal for service members. Good products at a fair price, no sales tax. Now, the Exchange is over priced compaired to the local economy. As for the tax free issue, take gasoline for instance: according to the US Energy Infotrmation Administration (http://www.eia.gov/tools/faqs/faq.cfm?id=10&t=10) Federal excise tax is $0.184 per gallon and the average state tax is $0.241 per gallon. As the Exchange (BX/PX) is tax exempt, why isnt the gasoline at least $0.42 cheaper than any local gas station. I am useing fuel as an example because I am sure this is something that all of us can relate to.

Thank you for taking the time to come to Rally Point to talk to us. My question to you Sir is the US is at a crossroads with religion. We are welcoming to all types and faiths. I even think we're very accommodating to them being that is what makes America great. What I see as a problem with religion now, isn't the religion itself, but the use of it. The Founding Fathers while Christians made it clear this land would be faith free meaning the ability to practice what you want. What we're seeing now is where people are taking their religious views and inserting them in either politics, policy, or even stating that the "official" religion of the US is Christianity. How would you as Commander in Chief restore America's faith that all religions are acceptable, protected, and wanted, yet that their religions will be kept separate from the governance of America?

Restoring the VA sounds like a noble task indeed, however many have tried to solve it through throwing money at it to no avail. The clear way is to instill a new structure and new leadership in a broken system - who would you appoint to take in this task, if you have someone in mind?

Sir, I have to say that it is refreshing to see a major Presidential candidate coming to RallyPoint. Thank you for the attention you show this community.

That said, this is what I wonder: Your father, George HW Bush, orchestrated the 1991 Gulf War, and left things unfinished. We had to deal with an active containment, no-fly zones, and an ongoing public relations nightmare as sanctions eroded mostly the Iraqi people, not their corrupt leaders. Then, your brother, George W Bush, orchestrated another attack on Iraq based on either lies and obfuscations (for the cynical) or "mistaken intelligence" (for the optimists). Again, we had an incomplete job and an aftermath that spun out of control. The whole region is boiling over as a result.

I went to your brother's war and knew people who came back with mangled bodies; the least we can do is give them a working VA and access to care. I also know people who came back broken in spirit and mind; the least we can do is make mental health care as much a priority as care for shattered limbs. But more importantly, how about not clamoring for more war, and not pushing for more fighting with places such as Iran? Most of the people pushing for more war are, I notice, not the types of people who are likely to be sent to do the actual fighting. It's going to be us, here, on this community.

So my question is twofold: what sort of *diplomatic* efforts are you going to engage in to try to avert more war in an area where your family has a poor track record; and, if war *does* happen, what are your plans to deal with the men and women who come back in need of their country after they have given all their country asked?

With the current labor participation rates, how does your immigration policy ideas help the US citizen when the rate of participation is at four decade low while welfare rolls are increasing? Governor, why is it that politicians these days seem to be so prone to "saber rattle" their parties political agenda on matters that should be left up to state and local governments?

Example: Gun control, it would be impossible to write legislation that would be appropriate for both New Jersey AND Alaska, discussion at the federal level only causes sales of firearms to the untrained and irresponsible to skyrocket.

Example 2: Gay marriage, there needs to be a SIMPLE methodology for two people, regardless of gender or sexual preference to name someone as their Heir, person to make end of life decisions, etc... I like to use the analogy of two old widows who's children are addicts. Sex isn't a factor, but they sure don't want their kids pulling the plug just to get a few dollars for their next "fix".

Leave the term "marriage" to the religions. This needs legislation beyond a supreme court decision... the country is wasting energy on it's discussion.

As a Democrat, I'm often more inclined to vote for a Democratic candidate than a Republican based on the direction the parties take if the individual candidates themselves are a close call for my preference. If you become the GOP nominee, what would your administration bring to the table that could sway me to you rather than my preferred party? I think there are a number of Democrats like myself who aren't enamoured with Mrs. Clinton. Your ability to draw across the aisle is crucial for us.

Governor Bush, it is a pleasure to have you here and to be able to speak to you in this forum. In our nation, it seems that we tend to get wrapped around the axle about almost everything except one: education. It's no secret that our schools are failing our children, especially in the inner city and rural areas, and our children are woefully unprepared to compete globally against other nations that place a higher emphasis on education. In the 50s, we were the envy of the world because of the quality of our education. Now, those days are merely a nostalgic memory.
My question to you is, as a future educator, what is your intent as president to improve the quality of education in America, to ensure all of our children are educated and not just taught, and to reverse the "school-to-prison" pipeline plaguing many of our inner city and rural schools?

I am at the point where I have watched both debates thus far, and all potential candidates have great talking points. And I like how Bush isn't throwing around the family name to help his effort. First, I would like to convey to you that I, for one, Still stand on my beliefs that like your father, your brother did his job in office and as you, yourself said, "he kept us safe" If you stand, as they did, I believe you too, could be a great leader.
I am a vet who lives at the level that a lot of people talk about, but, it seems, never really takes steps to help.I fight homelessness every day, worry that I might not have enough food to get me through the month, and due to my location, can not acquire proper medical care. I'm tired of hearing almost every day of another brother loosing his life just because he was there when his nation called him, but his nation wasn't there when he called.
Please, do something! Now. Today...

I have a specific question having to do with the State Partnership programs between National Guard and various nations around the globe. Pennsylvania's partnership seems to be with Baltic states, like Lithuania. Lithuania, at present, is taking a posture on their WWII history that pits anti-fascism against anti-Communism, which has caused them to both downplay the role of their citizenry in the Holocaust, as well as declare as war criminals Jewish partisans who happened, thanks to the dynamics of WWII, received support from Soviet Russia. For a state such as Pennsylvania, with a significant number of Jewish Americans of Lithuanian descent, including myself, I find it troubling that our state resources must be allocated to a partnership with a state so keen on hiding its Holocaust-era collaboration with the Nazis at the expense of survivors. Our governor isn't positioned to have any influence over this as it's a Title 10 function. Would you consider examining the state partnership program and evaluate, on a nation by nation basis, whether our defense collaboration aligns with our American morality?

How would you plan to actually get your party to do anything? Too often the GOP are shutting down the government over issues that are more socially driven than political. At what point will the government start doing its actual job again and pass at least the standard continued operation legislation like budgets and approvals for the things that congress used to do without becoming mired in partisan showboating.

How would you plan on going about this?

Also what specifically is your plan for repairing the VA? Currently the GOP has had the opportunity to pass over 7 different bills that would have greatly improved the VA but all were shut down due to Republican opposition.

At what point do you plan to start putting your talk to the walk?

And lastly would you be willing to push for a term limit for congress to eliminate political dead locks and get congress to start thinking about working more than their long term schemes?

If elected president, would you ask Congress to let in more legal immigrants than we do now, or fewer than we do now? Would you ask Congress to change the laws - to take away close blood unification of brother's and sisters..[Do you agree or disagree that using this method of applying for residency/citizenship exponentially multiplies the number of immigrants coming to the United States?], the green card lottery (how participants are vetted), [Why do we have a lottery when we have 11 million undocumented immigrants and refugees? Do you believe it is appropriate to continue this policy?], refugee status [What defines the difference between those who just do not want to return to their country and those who truly cannot for fear of persecution...?], —that govern how people are allowed in legally now? If yes then how do you propose that this happen? You described immigration as "an issue where I have changed somewhat," [How have you changed? Do you expect that your intentions/beliefs will continue to change and if so how?].

Governor Bush, you immediately denounced the Battle Flag of Northern Virginian ( also known as "the Confederate Flag") when the media blamed the flag, and not Dylann Roof responsible for the Charleston shooting. How am I to expect you to stand up for my personal beliefs and convictions when you jump on the bandwagon of media pressure. It may be an out dated flag of a failed inserrection to you, but to me it represents states' rights and freedom to voice our opposition to Washington D.C. deciding what is right or acceptable for every American.

In that same spirit, how will you approach the issue of career politicians. The people who have been in power for decades and yet make make millions of dollars a year and will say whatever is popular at the time to gain public favor.

How about popular vote? I am tired of my native Illinois giving all of its electoral votes for democrat regardless of how the individuals vote. Why does my vote mean nothing in the nationwide vote?

In short, I do not trust you and I do not trust the people who are supposed to represent me. I believe you to be another career politician just trying to buy favor from the public by saying whatever is popular at the time.

Governor,
I have served my country for 30+ years with many years in the reserve. I had to wait 26 months to get a partial settlement from the VA. The real problem as I see it the veterans service representatives are swamped with a caseload that without extra help will never be properly dealt with in a timely fashion. I speak with many people in the VA system and the overwhelming majority have never been in the military and cannot relate much less sympathize with the veterans they encounter.

That is a giant problem with how we do business. Hiring veterans into these crucial roles will go a very long way to clearing the incredible back log of cases. The VA has an insider culture that must be changed to change the negative culture we see so prominently displayed by many VA employees with no military service.

Hire veterans into these positions. Do not hire people with no military experience. I promise with the millions of Veterans available I'm sure many qualified candidates are out there.

By the way I lived in South Florida for many years and remember you as governor. I voted for you then, and hopefully will get that opportunity again. In any event all the best your doing great keep it up.

Gov Bush, I see in your write up that you lead in Veteran endorsements, there is already a good question asking for specifics on fixing the VA. I want to expand the veteran question to the Veteran retiree. I have seen our retirement pay fall behind due to inflation and other factors such as increased TRICARE PAYMENTS, SBP, TRICARE DENTAL, TRICARE and long term care. I would like to know have you a plan that will help the financial burden of retiree's pay? Such as have the military retirement pay for current retirees to be taxed at a lower rate or make that portion of income non taxable. I have seen and is currently experiencing more and more of my retirement pay dwindling due health care premium payment increases as well as long term care premiums for TRICARE retirees. It seems that the retirees has been taking a big hit and it seems that some relief to the current retiree would be in order.

Especially when any procurement of FRA/RRIF-TIGER funding is involved at any level. Our goal is to provide 6,500 to 10,000 jobs to veterans and minorities and we need a strong supporter of our efforts in Southern Nevada for veteran job creation. If fact, these 10,000 jobs can couple with the 10,000 homes you/your brother wants to create for the Hispanic & Afro-American in the Vegas Valley. Governor Bush, Governor Romney had previously discussed privatizing the VA during his presidential campaign. I refrain from using the VA now in favor of private healthcare, and I have Soldiers who have no choice but us it, and they have been subjected to long wait times, general inaction, inaccurate medical information, little understanding or empathy even on urgent issues. From my own time at the VA, very few employees are ever held accountable for their actions. I believe that privatizing the VA and establishing a system where employees can and will be fired for not assisting Veterans in a timely manner will help the medical needs of our country. I would like to know how you would address the issue of toxic veterans; specifically as it related to Bills such as HB2622. W know that Fort McClellan was home to chemical, nuclear, and biological weapons development and storage. We also know that Monsanto poisoned Anniston, and Fort McClellan's water supply, and paid 700 million for cleanup afterward ONLY to to th City, not to veterans. We also know the Post was close in 1999 and confirmed to be more toxic than Camp Lejune. Finally, we know that the VA acknowledges "possible" exposure.........
What will you do as President to help the sick and dying veterans of toxic exposure from Fort McClellan expedite claims and push for acknowledgment of "presumptive" exposure; as it seems that the US government is simply waiting for us all to die.....if they wait us out long enough...that is a forgone conclusion.

Gov. Bush, I am a veteran and I work at the VA and it sickens me to say that our veterans are getting mistreated or are not getting treated at all. This new Choice program was a knee jerk reaction that has done more harm than good. It has wasted the VA's money by sending our patients for the wrong procedures, to the wrong kind of physicians, and they are definitely not scheduling them in the timely manner they have promised. I had two patients with aneurysms that it took two months for them to schedule a test they needed. And no one is holding them accountable. Not that I can see or hear. We have patients dying of cancer and they are dragging their feet on getting them to radiation therapy. I hear of the facilities and the Choice program being very rude to our vet's. They've even been rude to us when we have to contact the Choice program to help get the scheduling process under way. They are wasting valuable time and money. They aren't taking our veteran's lives serious. This whole program needs to disappear. If the VA could remain fully staffed, the fee office who would normally schedule the patients would have a vet scheduled in 15 min and on to the next happy vet. Our vets deserve better. Thanks for your time.

What are your specific plans for reforming the VA? More importantly the benefits side. There needs to be a way to investigate all of the false claims that I know have been made by veterans that do not rate a disability. Our generation seems to believe that if you served, you are entitled to "get yours". I know a couple of instances myself where veterans are abusing the system and are basically clogging up the channels for others in need of a speedy decision and Comp & Pen appointments with their disabilities.
I myself have been trying for four years to have my disability rating fixed. I left Walter Reed after losing my right eye and having a moderate TBI from an RPG impact. I tried to stay in the Army and was pushed out anyways from my non-conforming injuries. Since being retired I have tried to have my disability corrected and I am still waiting. I am not the only one in this long line of a backlog but what can you do as President (45) to help us with our claims and care? No political speech, but a straight up four year plan that can be implemented and started on day one.

One last point that I hope you are able to read. I have been retired since June 2011. From the date of my injury Aug 2009 until my retirement I had multiple prosthetics made for my loss. In may 2013 I need a new eye made. The VA system would not send me back to Walter Reed to the gentlemen I have a very good relationship and has been there with me since the start. When I finally had enough of their bureaucratic BS, I had to fly myself from Missouri to Bethesda. For us that were injured and require a reasonable accommodation like this, shouldn't the VA step-up and do what is right by giving us the care we need/want?

Governor Bush thank you for stopping by Rally Point and answering questions. As a 100 percent service disabled World War Two/Korean War veteran I have had VA care for many years and have seen the best and worst of it. During your brother's second term I lived in a rural area in the north Georgia mountains and VA Fee Basis care that had been excellent became almost non-existent. The Atlanta VA Fee Basis Office failed to pay bills and got to the point where they would not even answer the telephone. This caused great problems for seriously service disabled veterans who lived more than 100 miles from the VA Hospital. My question is: If elected, what would you do to improve care for veterans in rural areas where there is no easy access to the type of care they require? FYI: Most doctors will not take the Choice Plan because payment rates are low and the VA is very slow to pay it's bills.

Also my wife has a service related disability and when she was trying to get surgery on a nerve in her left leg, the doctor told her she did not have sharp tools and that she was a hand nerve doctor. The doctor said, "Let me operate on two less critical patients first and watch some videos, then I'll do your surgery." How can you ensure us that this will not continue to happen?

Hello Gov. Bush. I will not sugar coat my question, so it may not be one of the few that get asked, but here goes. For a long time now our 1% of the population has been ignored by our government. We have been lied to, disrespected, incarcerated for doing what we thought was the best decision to bring the men and women under us home in one piece during "no win" situations. We come home and are forgotten. We get free healthcare that is nearly useless do to the long waits, we get disability if we are injured while in service but cannot receive our pension or retirement if we accept it, and 23 soldiers die by their own hand because if we speak up about our mental health we are punished by the "system". The average soldier works more than the national average of 2040 hours per year and thus make below what burger flippers do in Seattle. With all of that said what are you going to do to actually take care of the few who take the sins of war upon their souls so that others do not have to know these horrors?

Depending if you use data from the International Institute for Strategic Studies or the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, the United States spends more money on its defense budget ($581B or $610B, respectively) than the eight (or seven) other biggest spending countries in the world combined. Several of these countries are considered allies of the United States (the United Kingdom, France, Japan, Germany, and India). In reference to the VA...I would like to see changes made for veterans who did not have any criminal, violent or narcotic incidents to have their discharge upgrade considered and granted. I have submitted my evidence several times to Naval Board of Corrections but consistently denied. I completed boot camp at Parris Island at the age of 19....but there were issues that occurred like a grandmother getting ill and dying; a birth of my first born as well as a head injury that sent me to Bethesda Naval Hospital. I have overcame the stigma of the OTH discharge and graduated the police academy, served previously a Police Chief and earned my Bachelors degree with honors. We are good people who may have made mistakes at a younger age but we are loyal to the USA and the U.S. Constitution.

1. Do you have any plans to stop big corporations and lobbyists from buying our politicians?
2. As a retiree from the Corps, the yearly COLA is ridiculous. I worry that by the time I'm 70, I won't be able to afford to live. What started out as part of the defense program in the interest of the United States has turned into an international Santa Claus give-away program, similar to the extravagant give-away programs at home. Tens of billions given away each year automatically add to the national debt.
11. What are your plans to reduce the country's debt? Would you consider getting rid of any Federal Regulatory programs? What about EPA?
The Environmental Protection Act involves problems which the Founders delegated exclusively to the States where local supervision could prevent abuses and deal with over-regulation more readily. Today, federal control over air, water, and land environment is strangling the economy and suppressing the development of energy and natural resources.
What about OSHA? Occupational safety and health are important responsibilities but they should never have been delegated to the Federal level. The Founders knew that government is too big, and the legal machinery too expensive for most citizens to handle. They therefore endure the disruptive and oppressive edicts of this agency because it has been too big for the average citizen to fight. What about the Federal Communications Commission? This agency was designed to "police" the traffic on the air waves but the FCC has used its licensing power to control the editorial content of programs. This is in direct violation of the First Amendment. What about the Pure Food and Drug Administration? There is no authority for this agency under the Constitution. If it is in the national interest to have such an agency it should have been authorized by an amendment. There is already a wide-spread criticism of the arbitrary manner in which this agency has exercised its broad spectrum of power.
12. What would you do to increase our children's learning? We have fallen so far behind other countries in terms of education, that we are importing foreigners for high level technological jobs. I believe a change needs to be made.
13. There is no Constitutional foundation for the extravagant and wasteful expenditures of the Department of Health, Education and Welfare. Each of the agencies under HEW has developed since the Butler Case. The dictum in this case authorized the general welfare clause to be interpreted in a manner which extended government intrusion into areas specifically excluded from federal jurisdiction by the Founders. Approximately 1/3 of the federal budget. What, if any, changes would you make to HEW?
14. We all know that Social Security cannot hold up for another 10 years. Do you have plans to fix it? The government could not keep their greedy hands out of our Social Security and it is nearly bankrupt. Why don't we cut all legislators pay, extravagant retirement plans, and so forth to pay back the money they have taken.

Ok. I've been out of active duty for 13 years and 3 months. I was on an Aircraft Carrier USS Constellation as a Store keeper in charge of Aviation Supply. For years I have wanted to work in the Federal sector but the problem is I live in West Chester, Ohio and everything is out of my commuting distance, and also the process is so hard as of to apply. Governor Bush, It is refreshing to see a presidential candidate reach out so directly to a large swath of the military community. Thank you. My question focuses on your focus of rebuilding our military - specifically relating to the new military retirement system that has been discussed in Washington since at least 2011. It would appear that the Pentagon is willing to support the proposed changes to the current military retirement system - while there would assumedly be a 'grandfather' clause for those currently serving, I just can't see this as a positive thing for our career troops. We are fortunate to have the best military on the face of the Earth and proud to say that it is an all volunteer force. Some come to serve, some come to get a job, and some come for a career. The proposal on the table seems to be a clear pandering to Wall Street with the privatization of our Soldiers', Sailors', and Marines' retirement pay. Black Rock is the fund manager for the TSP and as a large institutional and private asset manager has very close friends in politics. This screams of balancing both the budget and special interests on the backs of our service members, would you continue to support this change in our retirement system or keep it as it has been for at least the last 20 years? In changing mental health, we should include Military Psychological Operations, and CIA documents regarding Hypnosis and the mind. I would first like to say thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to answer our questions. I am a medically retired vet after 11 years of service. After leaving the service I have had the opportunity to experience the shortcomings of the VA first hand. When I was active I thought people were overly exaggerating how serious the problem was. I will give you two specific examples and would like you to tell us, here at RP, how you would change the system so that issues like these do not continue to happen
happen.

1. I am currently utilizing vocational rehab to finish college. The program is great with the exception of receiving the housing allowance. It is usually at least a month late. Which, does not bode well with the bank.

2. I recently developed 2 blood clots in my foot. Diagnosed by VA doctor and referred to the main VA hospital for removal. After waiting nearly a month, I decided to call to find out what was going on. I was then told that they decided after reviewing my case that they would not remove them, but fit me with compression hose that I would wear for 6 months. While I will not question whether or not compression hose will fix the blood clots and varicose veins. I will however, question how they can recommend treatment without seeing me.

These are just two of the main issues I have encountered, I could ramble on and on, but I feel this hits at the core of the problem. How would you correct these issues?

I have often wondered why fix something that is so broken. I just put in a brand new a/c at my house. Over the last 2 years the cost to repair and keep the old one running was reaching the point where I could have replaced the old one. So with that being said why not get rid of the VA hospitals all together and look at moving veterans to some type of Medicare type program where we can go get quality care at civilians hospitals and quiet frankly are near where we live and will actually help us.

Do you see a complete privatization of the VA or total top to bottom revamp somewhat like President Reagan with PATCO and cite national emergency and Taft–Hartley Act as I believe this great nation and its veterans want a President to demonstrate a clear resolve to take control of a dysfunctional agency/bureaucracy that is killing,disrespecting,degrading those it is supposed to serve and restore its commitment to its nations veterans.

Governor Jeb Bush, while I know you have heard a lot of questions concerning the VA Health System and the issues that surround them, I would like to ask something a little bit different.

Over the past few years, we have seen the DoD start to better prepare Service Members for their transition to the civilian life following their time of service. It's no big secret that the DoD spends thousand of dollars taking us from our comfy jeans to military greens but only pennies on taking us from those greens and putting us back into jeans.

My question to you sir, what actions would you demand the DoD and the VA to take to ensure that Service Members are provided with outstanding support throughout their transition in order to ensure that the Service Member is given every chance to be successful through their transition?

VA treatment has almost killed me outright three times, causing major hospitalizations at a local non-VA hospital through their emergency room, multiple surgeries, the loss of my job, and classification as being disabled. My home is now in foreclosure, my vehicle has died and I am unable to purchase a replacement, I am unable to keep up with repairs and maintenance of my home and the city is attacking me, and I have been unable to obtain a job. Governor Jeb Bush - Governor Bush; If the country is faced with the choice of either:

[1] purchasing an incredibly expensive piece of military equipment which cannot perform the tasks that existing equivalent military equipment can do AND that purchase is "good for the economy" (but IS NOT necessarily "good for the military")

or

[2] purchasing less expensive military equipment that does its job better than the "new, improved, and expensive" military equipment (even going so far, if necessary, as to start manufacturing new items of military equipment that is currently in inventory but no longer being manufactured) AND that purchase is not necessarily "good for the economy (but IS "good for the military")

which way would you vote?

Why is he (Jeb Bush) supporting elected officials that are denying services to citizens just because they are requesting marriage licenses they have religious objections to? What if they were seeking a license to assemble, a fund raiser for cancer research, or hold a parade? Does't anyone see the slippery slope these people are leading us to? Did the staff of Rally Point write the intro for Governor Bush above? If that's the case, there is no way you can deny that's an endorsement. Why not be above board with it and say that's what you've done? The endorsement is particularly galling given that many veterans hold his brother's administration directly responsible for the total unpreparedness of the VA system to handle the exponential number of casualties caused by the Iraq/Afghanistan wars.

Governor Bush,
With all due respect, politicians have been screwing the American People for the last 40 years. To wit:
- Shameful treatment of our military veterans
- raiding Social Security and leaving IOUs that you have no intention of re-paying
- providing a so called "poison pill" called sequestration that was largely intended to force a balanced budget that has yet to work
- stealing health care coverage from 300+ million Americans in order to provide coverage to approximately 15 million with no coverage - essentially giving castor oil to 300+ million Americans that did not need to be "cured."
- allowing illegal immigrants to continue to raid, plunder, and tax our system when according to the National Poverty Center as of 2010 over 16 million children are poor - how about we take care of Americans first! And that includes "legal" immigrants!
- failing to uphold the law with respect to those illegal immigrants by not sending them back
- stealing those rights and powers specifically intended to be vested in State government and growing a Federal Government so large, so slothful, and so gluttonous that it could not get out of its own way if it tried.
- Allowing politicians and lawyers to build a shameful tax systems that has 75,000 pages of requirements (or should I say hidden benefits for those politicians and lawyers) when the most perfect document ever written (US Constitution) is only 6 pages. You don't need 75,000 pages to have a fair and equitable tax system.

The American people do not trust politicians and especially not Washington and career politicians. If our Founding Fathers were here and could see the damage caused by you politicians they would line every one of you in front of a firing squad. The one thing intelligent Americans know about politicians is that if your lips are moving, we know you're lying. We know this because we know that it is not in your collective best financial interest to fix what is wrong in Washington. Our founding Fathers were much smarter than any of our politicians and they did not believe in career politicians (if they did they would have said something in the Constitution). In fact we have a Country, Constitution, and form of government today as a result of an "elite" ruling class that our Founding Fathers rose up against.

Again sir with all due respect, you live in a world of political privilege and have your entire life. You have no idea what the average veteran or middle class american goes through on a daily basis to try and be good providers for our families. Politicians have gotten us in to this mess, why should we believe that you or any other politician will get us out of this mess? And please sir do not tell us or give us an answer that includes essentially "...because I have done this or that in my state."

Governor Bush sir, how do you plan on paying for the fixing of the VA? Will this be done through new taxes, an increase of existing taxes or, by cutting staff? The hospital in Baltimore is already understaffed and, Primary Care doctors are overwhelmed as is their surgeons. It's very hard for vets to get nessesary surgeries because, of last minute cancellations and emergencies. There was a young vet next to me in pre-op back in June who desperately needed some metal removed from his right knee as, it was infected. He waited for six months for an orthopedic surgery appt and, had to go through his Congressman to get it, only to be cancelled on last minute. That young man was desperate enough to operate on himself. How will you guarantee that this kind of thing will stop and, be fixed? Vets are dying while waiting for adequate care that we've earned through blood, sweat and service, whether we saw combat or not. We wrote this country a blank check with our live to protect it, only to have it turn it's back on us, it seems. As President, how will you change this?

Governor Bush, Thank you and your family for the support of Veterans over the years. Area that has interest me over the years is Military and Veterans families. I believe it to be an area that needs more benfits and accomandations for. New research is showing high levels of at risk military child do to the demand on serves members. There is no serves for families to transition from military life to civilian life, if soldiers are struggling why would we think families would not be having trouble. The last thing the VA has been many great changes since my discharge from the Army, but recently I noticed an area that the VA may be lacking in is family friendly VA with the growing OIF/ OEF veterans using the VA most likely having childern. I know there is more details to these areas I Feel are in need of work, do you think more needs to be done for families And what areas would you work on?

What are you going to do to rectify the chipping away of military benefits of Retirees and Veterans which has occurred during the Obama reign such as low or no cost of living allowances when costs have increased substantially yet our retirement checks have not kept up with inflation. Many of us have also lost Tricare Prime eligibility costing us thousands more per year in medical expenses in order for the government to steal earned benefits and save a few hundred million dollars while giving billions of dollars to questionable programs. Governor Jeb Bush, welcome and thank you for making this step in the right direction. What we don't want is a visit to service members and veterans to be a political play! I am a Floridian and alone with being military and traveling, going back to Florida to retire is looking less like an option due to the less than comparable benefits and treatment of Vets compared to other states I've served in. What is the plan to review, overhaul state practices of minimizing federal service to our country. Would you support a federal plan to make all states offer a minimum regulated benefit structure to veterans that choose to retire in any state? Also when do we cap Congress raises and benefits , during a time of financial cut backs? They are set for life, where men and women in service live sometimes below poverty levels while serving, fighting and dying for this Country. We are the TRUE one percenters in Amercia and it should not be that hard to fund things for us, without making it a bargaining chip, or only an issue at election time!! If you are not elected for any reason would you still be vocal on the affairs of military members past and present?

One last thing...can you tell Mr Trump on the next debate that the veterans don't want his lip service! And not to use our names for applause if he doesn't offer some actual policies to support his "I love veterans and they love me" stuff!!!

I think a lot of people would like to know to answer to these for starters... I know I've got plenty more questions myself.

By the way... The suggestion that an ALL VETERAN STAFF run the VA, it's Hospitals and Clinics, sounds like a pretty good idea to me. What about that?

I'm not half as worried about you "crossing the aisle" as has been said, as I am about whether you're going to be "Everybody's President" or not... Unlike the current Yahoo that's in the Office!

1) As America moves forward in a world that is becoming increasingly technology based, what is your plan to make sure America is ALWAYS first in STEM?
2) As our Vets come home to a dilapidated VA, what is your plan to STOP Vet suicide rate? How will you bust the bureaucracy, and get them to the doctors, neurologist, and engineers that can rebuild their bodies and minds?
3) As these Vets are rebuilt and the top American businesses are clamoring to find qualified people to fill their ranks, how will you help vets convert their skills to the civilian world?
4) Obesity in America is an abysmal trend, how will you ensure a healthy American children are not later a burden on medical care and are fit to serve in a national military?
5) As the world becomes more technologically advance, and our public education is less than adequate, how will you ensure that Americans graduating from High school will be competitive in the best colleges in the world OR be able to step in to a work force competently and confidently?
6) NASA is near and dear to Americans and it is the only American government agency that inspires the dream of engineers, artist’s, and economist. Will you increase NASA’s budget giving them a much larger ability to continue to answer mankind’s greatest questions, advancing all scientific fields, and creating the economies of tomorrow?
7) As the energy needs of America grow, our infrastructure and current technology is reaching its limits, how will you lead America to reach energy independence? How will you get away from the model of relying on other countries resources that we can/are/or maybe in conflict with? How will you strengthen, or rebuild our weakening infrastructure?

Governor, thank you again for taking the time to speak to us. I love America and I want her to be number one. I know these are difficult complex questions. My hope for you Governor, is that you surround yourself with the best minds, no matter who they are, and you lead them to make America number one in everything. Number one in math, science, engineering, technology, economy, art, and dreams. Gov Bush it is nice of you to take the time to come visit us. I know there are thousands of question that need to be answered and corrected for our active duty and veterans. I have two questions for you, the first one is when I joined the military in 1991 I was promised free medical for life when I retired after 20 years, but former president Clinton change the policy and broke our governments promise to thousands of retirees. How and are you as president going to start following a promise. Second I have been a supporter of the republican side all of my life, they used to be the ones who always took care of the military, but I see things from both side now. So anyways here's my second question every time Congress can't come up with a budget they always say we will pull money from the military or the schools etc. and nobody gets paid until we figure out the budget, how about nobody in Congress, Senate ect. gets paid until they get budget figured out. There are about 125 countries that we give money to including Afghanistan we pay them to fight a war for them.

Governor Jeb Bush, for veterans' issues, the restructuring of the VA is top priority. I would like to know your thoughts on specifics that you actually can do as President in order to alleviate the backlog of medical claims as well as streamlining the education arm of the VA. As far as other issues stand, the top priority for me is term limits in the Congress. The only way that the stalemate of Congress can be broken, in my opinion, is to limit the amount of years that Congressmen serve. People that serve for 20 plus years in the Congress lose their perception of reality with what is truly going on in their districts. They live in the Washington bubble and that perception becomes their reality. What, if anything, can you do as President to push that agenda forward.

Sir, one of the biggest disparities in receiving the Post 9/11 GI Bill is that veterans who study online are not afforded full access to the housing allowance benefit (BAH). At present, full time online learners receive ½ BAH compared with on ground learners. While well intended, the current BAH standard discriminates against veterans who are adult learners as well. Veterans, who study online, are largely employed and have family commitments that do not often afford the opportunity to study in a “traditional” college setting. Would you consider changing the current Post 9/11 GI Bill to allow all veterans who meet the full time student requirement to receive full BAH?

Not only is the military being cut drastically but every year retiree increases decrease. Additionally when I joined in 1970 I was told I and my family would be taken care of for life. Ha. Medical is a joke, I pay over $100 per month for dental which only covers an annual cleaning maybe and most commissaries have been closed. Perhaps if politicians had to live with the same benefits they impose on us it might make a difference.

Our government was trying to negotiate thru the international community but China was adamant and instead bullied us. If China would not stop their evil deeds then armed conflict will be ignited. As an allied country to U.S., do you mind us if our country and the United Nations will call upon your help? And how do you handle this kind of crisis?

While President Obama was not able to implement the national health program outlined by Former President Clinton due to push back from the industry friendly Republican Party, strides forward have been made in equalizing the healthcare options in America. I see a national health service benefiting citizens in the long run. Insurance companies are in my opinion a hindrance to optimal healthcare and the disconnect between states for those needing specialized services in the Medicaid system or just to be able to travel to visit family in other states can cause a hardship to individuals. Sir, for many of us disabled by Agent Orange and retired from the military, if we are rated by VA at less than 50% we do not receive any extra compensation-in my case, VA simply takes 40% of my retirement pay and issues it tax free. I am 68 years old and I don't have any tax liability. Will you go on record as supporting H.R. 203-the Retired Pay Restoration Act? Governor Bush,if elected, would you be willing to reform the tax code so to increase the amount of taxes collected and reduce the amount of money being spent to collect said taxes? I am referring to implementing the Fair Tax approach. If we were to use the Fair Tax approach, there would be a much larger tax base which in the short and long term reduce the amount of taxes per individual. This will also include receiving tax money from foreign nationals and other visitors that spend their money here as well. This will also catch the illegal undocumented workers that are working under the table for cash for companies as cheap labor. By removing all of these frivolous tax loop holes for individuals and businesses you can reduce the size of the IRS saving even more money since the IRS will be collecting from 50 states and not each individual and every business within the US umbrella. Tax based on consumption will also drive our economy up and be a huge help to small businesses everywhere that employ most Americans. This will allow companies to create more jobs which also will increase the base because more people will have more money to spend.

Everyone else is asking VA questions so I will ask this one. Gov Bush, will you protect our 2nd Amendment in it's entirety, or do you believe that citizens do not have the right to own without cumbersome government regulations, firearms such as AR15's and other military looking firearms? The general public believes that semi-autos are the same as military machine guns. Citizens cannot own machine guns (fully auto) without undergoing an extensive permit process and severe restrictions on their eventual use. I want to vote for a President that does not pick and choose what parts of the Constitution He/She is going to support. Semi-autos are used in self-defense, hunting, and recreational and competitive target shooting. The NRA says there are more than 250 million firearms in the US. 15% of those are semi auto.

I served aboard an Aircraft Carrier off the coast of Vietnam. Scientific evidence shows that the waters were full of Agent Orange. Our ship had to distill the seawater in order to have water to cook with, drink, wash and shower. Scientific evidence also shows that the distillation process did not remove the Agent Orange. Why are we excluded from exposure to Agent Orange? I have been diagnosed with Type II Diabetes and suffered a heart attack exactly one year after being retired but my service connection is not being recognized.

Our country sees fit to send us to all the corners of the globe to do whatever is decided that needs to be done by the powers that be. And we do. We want to know what you WILL actually DO to impact and give these problems and issues the attention and effort that they need and deserve? 22 vets committing suicide a day because they have lost hope in the country and system that lead to their current level of despair is a failure of our country's leadership that can not continue to be kicked down the road for a later date. Imagine sir, if you can, that 22 of your brothers and sisters were ending their own lives daily. THIS NEEDS TO STOP!

Sir, given the effort of DoD to become more "commercial like" due to the potential change in retirement system, why hasn't anyone considered actually making the pay scale more commercialized based on skillset instead of rank based? I believe that would be a better way of keeping the "best of the best" in the military.

The reason I say this is that we lose highly trained technical people that could be helping the cyber warfare effort due to the fact they can get paid better in the commercial world. But, we have a lot of overpaid military who stay in because they cannot make the same outside.

I realize the military has different types of missions than industry but that is where incentive pay can be used.

Bottom line is that the pay structure in the military does not promote technical people staying in the military. And our war is more technical now than ever.

Both parties have been using the Armed Forces as pawns in their political wars. Republicans claims to care more for the veterans than the democrats do and vice versa. Military spending bills should be stand alone bills without caveats. There are always a stipulations attached to every military spending bills yet no one explains why the bills are defeated. Governor Jeb Bush,
Great to see you here on Rally Point. After 32 years of service, and a recent retiree, What are your views on Restoring this great Country and our Nations Military to its previous state as the number one country in the world? As a veteran of seven deployments throughout my career, I have first-hand views on how strained the military is. Constant draw downs is not the answer in my opinion. In order to be the best Military in the world we need to pump money into the military and build it up, not draw it down and take money away from it.
Looking at our Military from a recruiting and retention perspective, if we don't take care of our service members and our retirees, there children and grandchildren are not going to join to serve the country and to make it great.
Looking at it from the human perspective we must continue to find ways to keep the experienced leaders who are going to lead this country and its military into the future. We are probably soon going to face war on three to four fronts if we are not careful. This will further strain our forces and require us to grow them instead of shrinking them.
In conclusion, we must find the strength and resolve to continue to make this country great and to face its enemies with the mightiest military in the world. We, as a country know we can do this we just have to apply ourselves and have a President that can unite both parties in one common goal. In my opinion that goal should be to tackle all problems as a team and focus on what is in the best interest's of our Country, not just our particular political party.

Promises were made and understood, 1865, President Lincoln's second inaugural speech the promise was made to "CARE for those"... which in 1959 became the motto of the VA.. Mr. Bush, What are your thoughts on bringing Reserve retirement benefits up to par with that of our Active Duty brothers and sisters? During the Global War on Terror I served on three deployments between 2001 and 2005 for a total of nearly 2 1/2 years. I served over 20 good years as a Reservist, from 1986 - 2008, yet as a Gray Area Retiree I cannot collect earned pay until I reach the age of 60. My Active Duty brothers and sisters who serve honorably for 20 years receive retired pay upon retirement, even if they never served in a combat zone. Since only around 13 percent of Reservists stay in long enough to earn retired pay, and our lives are surely as valuable as Active Duty soldier's lives, why is it I am only entitled to a fraction of the earning power of my AD colleagues? Thank you for your time and kind consideration of my question on Retired Reserve benefits.

Governor Bush as you well know the VA system is broken, so I will not beat that dead horse.

However, I would like to see two things passed by the next President. First, All politicians must use VA health care for all health matters without exception. Second, I would like to see politicians held accountable for "promises" made to their constituents during election speeches. If the politician made a false claim they should be relieved and payback their wages for their term. For too long they have been living off of the backs of hard working people with outright lies and keep getting elected.

Would you work for those two things? If not why?

I served my country for 12 years. I got out because of back injuries. I think 12 years later I received disability. I never received back pay because of paperwork. I do not understand. It should have been automatic when I got out and should have been told I was eligible for disability. To this day my back has been getting worse. [login to see]

Since Desert Shield/Desert Storm members of the Reserve and Guard have been deployed more than any other time in our history, yet their benefits are not the same as those they serve with on active duty. Reserve duty can affect their family and careers more with far less support from DoD. How can this difference be changed and the myriad regulations be more fairly balanced?

I believe the total budget for the VA in 2006 was just under $70 billion. It looks like the 2016 VA budget is right around $168 billion. For starters, it seems as though our country is willing to participate in conflicts around the world, and I have always questioned if the decision makers ever take into consideration the recurring long term costs of these decisions. My question is two-fold. First, what additional oversight will be enacted to ensure every veteran who suffers and injury while on active duty is cared for in a respectable and dignified manner like they deserve? Secondly, are the long term costs projected (VA benefits for example) from any conflict we participate in and why are they not budgeted from the beginning and not after the fact? The total cost of war is long term and the total commitment needs to be made from the beginning.

Governor Bush, I am concerned about centrist politics that don't meet the goals of conservatives like myself. I have a few questions about:
Retirees not allowed to continue to serve (National Guard Service)
VA employment freezes and delay of service(s)
Educational Common Core
Federal Pay and Balancing a Budget

- Active Military Retirees (from the premise of 37 y/o 20 year service limited, honorable discharge) (all service) are excluded from joining the National Guard/Any Uniformed Service... considering the difficulty in finding employment (especially for those coming out of 20 years of combat arms); adjustments issues to alternative mentalities and life styles ("institutionalized"); those no longer associated with a home of residence (i.e. no connection or financial means of living unemployed in other states); and the ongoing needs of the National Guard why are retired service no longer worthy of service?

- Why are there repeated hiring freezes from VA employment, yet treatment and claims have continued to be inappropriately delayed?

- What is the purpose of a common core educational system that teachers and parents need to relearn in order to conform to the common core... changing the process of (at least) mathematics will not help public schools compete with private, let a lone reteaching basics as the rest of the world passes us. (Ref 1-4 grade still working on adding and subtraction by "regrouping" 2 three digit numbers.) Why does it seem that common core has redefined "no child left behind" to what is now "keep them all together, fail them all."

- When will balancing a budget start with cutting Elected Officials, i.e. Congress and such Levels bonuses and basic pay? If the nation does not promote the idea of paying teachers in the hopes of gaining only those that what to make a positive impact, why not apply this to elected officials as well?
There has been an increase in the requirements to teach children how to read and write, why should my representatives not mirror such an income and education imbalance? Perhaps just as the rest of the nation seeks an entry level job with minimal benefits, perhaps all government elected positions should mirror their constituents - at a national level? Or perhaps the Federal assignments of elected office should be considered temporary assignments with no benefits until 4 years of service... (consider GS employees are temporary for the first three years)?

I spent 8 years in the Marine Corps Reserve. However, I don't qualify for VA Benefits at all. Why is that and what can be done to change that? Like so many others, we were always ready and prepared to serve at a moments notice if needed. I know during my time I suffered from a few injuries which after many years have become problematic. During most elections (presidential and off-year) the different candidates make promises to the veteran community, among other communities, to make sweeping changes and have a big impact. Clearly many of these promises have gone unfulfilled or have lost themselves in political fist-shaking. The veteran community is largely and more frequently disenfranchised by the federal government and politicians, which is harmful to the future of our military's numbers, and to the very political establishment(s) trying to put candidates in office.
How do you plan to cut into the issues and tear down the political and leadership barriers that are hindering changes among the governmental veteran services, to enact REAL changes to better serve the men and women who have sacrificed life, limb, family and well-being for the US?

I am a Gulf War Combat Veteran and a VA Employee as well. I know there is a huge call to "fix" the VA system. I also would LOVE to see that, but my view is from the inside looking out. Should you be elected, and your goals for the VA rehabilitation are met, will you and your administration listen to ALL VA employees on their thoughts and ideas for the VA to run better? Or just the "leadership". I am a "front lines" VA employee, and still have yet to be asked what I think could help make changes in the system.
They ask leadership, not us that do the work every single day, overtime, dealing with staff shortages, and our frustrated Veterans coming to us angry looking for answers that we cannot give. Probably a question you weren't ready for, figured I would throw you for a loop to keep you on your toes :)

We need Combat Brigades and Divisions, both light and Motorized Infantry Brigades. These units develop Battle Proven Leaders and not garrison personnel. Military must re-learn how to run their support operations at home and abroad. We have allowed civilian support personnel command influence with devastating consequences.

During the past few years the rear-echelon personnel were, for the most part, spared the summary dismissals during the Purge of Obama. We do not need more truck drivers, personnel sergeants, or Health Service Administrators. Too many 'duty' positions are currently filled by deployment dodgers and petty bureaucrats. We need Strategic Corporals, Special Forces, and combat ready warriors.

The 'Army of Excellence' model placed combat personnel in support roles. It was normal to retrain an injured infantryman and place him in a support unit. He brought maturity, leadership, and combined arms knowledge to the unit. He was not thrown under the bus because his demographic suggested he voted against the current president. Many Vietnam Veterans received the opportunity to share their leadership and combat experience in occupations that sis not normally receive regualr field training. The Combat Arms Captain or Platoon Sergeant that did not make the cut for advancement in their occupation were moved to the support unit.

We MUST de-Politicize the services and federal agencies. First and foremost by enforcing fitness standards and equal deployment requirements on all pay grades and occupations. We must raise our stand of personal behavior and enforce it consistently across all services.

The majority of vets can see and agree with the big issue of restoring the services. The harder questions is what and how to restore. The Purge of Obama targeted combat veterans supported ruthlessly by bureaucrats eager to keep their civil service positions and power. I must also sadly admit that many of our general officers and senior colonels were able to side step their own dismal via political loyalty. We have too many colonels in administrative positions sitting on the promotion board that did not meet the body fat standard or are physically unfit, or combat unfit.
