Greeting New People on RallyPoint! Do you do it?

A new member told me that I was the first to welcome that new member. Does anyone remember going into some place where you knew no one and no one said much to you, if anything?

This site does offer so much, so are we doing enough after getting them here? And just connecting is not enough. We need to engage and really welcome in one way or another. Trust me, acceptance is something that ALL veterans and SMs deserve.

Do you have any ideas? Should we treat new people with respect and deference?

I don't always but if a new person catches my eye, I'll send them a friend request with some words of encouragement.

Absolutely. It's important also to thank them for the connection and offer your availability to share knowledge. Simply adding someone to your contact list just to have them is not the way to go.

I would love for people who are not active to be active and realize what we have here with this site. So many ways to give, only a few years to do it.

I haven't as yet, but I'm still rather new myself. If I notice someone that's new, I surely would do so.

I recall when i was in we were (at least I was ) designated a buddy to take and show you around the installation and area surrounding base. I was considered a 'shake and bake' which meant I came into the army as an RN but not a 4 year college RN, I had no AIT just basic to first duty assignment, so going through the army I had many 'buddies'. I don't know if this is still done today, but if not it should be brought back. So yes, to the original question we should welcome new followers to any page.

As not only a new SM but someone new to RP, (I reach the end of my first year in two days) I love the idea of having the opportunity to meet SM from all branch's and the world over to find mentors and to have people to ask questions to. I look forward to finding out everything that can come with this site
