The salary of a GS employee does not include BAH. There is a locality adjustment, however, that varies depending on the location.<br />2. Much like SFC Smith stated, when applying for a federal position, your experience and education will allow you to apply for a higher grade.<br /><br />Since you're in the DC area, I recommend calling Henderson Hall and attend their Cracking the Code Workshop; it's offered monthly. Base your search for employment at a GS scale on experience. There is absolutely no reason why an SFC shouldn’t be targeting positions at the GS 10 -12. The really high speed guys can look at 13s with relative success, especially MI.
