Has anyone added a parent as a dependent for VA Care or know anything about the process?

I added my Mother-in-law to my account many years ago but that was when I was active duty. As I understand it you have to be paying 50% or greater of her income (not sure if that is including SSN) for her to be added. My MIL has passed on many years ago so things maybe updated now. Call you local VA Representative.

Ask to speak to a social worker at your local VA facility. They can get you squared away SGT on all programs you would qualify for when it comes to adding a parent as a dependent.

I added my Mom back in 2013, but as I stated above, she passed away just as they approved her as my dependent. I followed the online procedure for adding a parent as a dependent. It was fairly straightforward and an easy application process. It only took about five to six weeks for the approval! Which, as I also stated, is extremely fast for the VA!!!
I wish all who are going for this step the success and expedience that I had in getting your loved ones added as your dependent!!! I know how helpful it can be!!!

Go to va.gov, manage benefits, add or remove dependents, and just follow the steps. I did this in 2013 for my Mom and it only took 5-6 weeks, but unfortunately she passed away before then.
Wish I had thought of it sooner because it would have been so helpful!!! I’ll be praying for you guys!
