I have not heard of tracking scams. Also, to your comment on you sent a registered letter to Janesville and it ended up somewhere else. Registered mail is a hand to hand transaction. Certified mail goes primarily through the mail stream. Once you login to UPS through the link, the scammers have your information and can redirect any package that you may receive in the future. It will always notify the sender. Or the reciever by the yellow " sorry we missed you". The sorting facilities are pretty advanced and rarely screw up peoples packages. Also 3 out of the 4 times they tried it on me, they did it in a group chat and I let everyone know it was a scam. Sometimes mail gets misdirected and I get that a lot. But yes to your ?. It can be scammed just like anything else. When you send a registered letter, be sure to add a returned receipt and use the Zip + 4 code. Most of all besure the Zip Code numbers are legible. One number can look like another number and send it another way and never reach your intended destination. Don't know how it would happen with a Registered letter tho, because they have to be signed for by every person that takes possession of it from sender to recipient. I had one that I had to return to sender that lived on my route that had been lost in the system for over 2 years. I had a few First Class letters that were addressed from Honolulu, HI to Honolulu, HI but ended up at my PO in eastern NC, because the addresses were illegible and the computers couldn't decipher them. I KNOW the guy who delivers to my little town and he ALWAYS comes thru between 10am and noon. I ordered a generator and was OUTSIDE talking to my neighbor across the street. Went back inside and checked and it said "DELIVERED at 5:30pm. So back outside I go and asked my neighbor if we EVER had a delivery at 5:30pm. Nope. SO I immediately notified the sender who blew me off since UPS on their own WEBSITE said it was delivered. TO ME. I mean, a generator is a pretty large and heavy package and I have standing instructions for all deliveries (DHL/UPS/FEDEX) to put it INSIDE my back door. Don't care HOW big the package is. Also had a company mis-ship a 5 quart jug of Mobil 1 race oil. The odd thing is, Even UPS will NOT give you the address it was delivered to. Ebay cannot access it either. So I had, both times, the UPS guy sign a written statement that he had NOT been in town at 5:30pm on the day the genset was delivered nor did he ever bring me ANY delivery on the day the oil supposedly arrived. Ebay was nice enough to refund my money both times, but both times UPS STATED that it had been delivered to my house. I said "PROVE IT". Call your delivery driver...he will testify in COURT he did not deliver anything. So watch out for that. Sometimes they will also send a "placeholder" some little trinket so they can SAY the box was delivered. I got the guy with the genset because the delivery notice said the package weighed 1.5 pounds. Umm, no. The guy with the oil wanted me to drop the protest and he'd THEN refund the money.. Nope and Ebay denied it at first. But I've been using EBAY since 2000 or before, and they covered it. The strange thing is that UPS was showing that tracking number as having been delivered even though NO UPS guy was in town at those stated times. And UPS would NOT give out any more info. I got lucky I found the weight delivered on the genset. So be careful, as I've heard this happening with Amazon packages too (and what the rest of the guys said here about UPS is very true as well.
