I was a Supply Clerk, and transitioned to the Regular Army after I found I liked the military life. It required me to change my MOS to Fire Support Specialist, and ended up being a very worthwhile career. As someone has already said, talk to an active duty recruiter to get the ball rolling. Keep in mind though, just because you may be eligible to go active duty, it doesn't mean that your unit will release you. I believe that they have the option to say 'No'. Good luck. Right now with the new business rules, E-1 to E-5 prior service can go Active Duty. Just need to contact your local recruiter (Active or AGR Recruiter) to help you out. You will have to do a 368(Conditional Release) and a 4187(Personnel Action Form). The 368 has to be signed by the first GO in your chain of command. So, if RA is what your are looking at, right now is the time to jump on it. I don't have the USAREC message in front of me, but you might have to have 48 months are less of Active time. Once again, just check with a local recruiter. I went from active duty Marine Corps (1987-1993 Supply/Logistics) to Navy Reserves (1995-2000 Supply/Logistics/Master at Arms) to active duty Air Force (2001-2015 Satellite Communications) until I finally was able to retire. it might take some paperwork shuffling and change of career field but it could be done. definitely go to a recruiter or two! I was in the Army Reserves and I wanted to go active duty. I had two problems with the Army -- they didn't want to train me for another job since they had already paid for my training a couple years prior, and they wouldn't allow me to go active until they were able to fill the reserve billet that would empty once I left.

The Navy, though, didn't give a rat-crap about the Army's requirements. I was able to enlist with them, and the only delay involved was waiting for an open school seat in my chosen career field.
