I am currently on a MOB that should end by September but my ETS date is in July. I was told I would have to extend into my IRR time so it would force me to stay in the reserves for another 2 years. I was told my only other option would be to get my orders amended so that I am off the mob by the time my ETS date comes, which is nearly impossible. I would like to extend until the mob is over but I was told that was not an option. Does anyone have any insight on this?

I have not heard about cutting into IRR time like this, sounds like a scam but I could be wrong. That's wrong, you should be able to extend say 6 months to get you home and a cushion to get your paperwork in order to ETS. Sounds like your command is messing with you

It was actually the retention NCO who told me this. My commander was pretty pissed and he is also in the same boat as I am but I’m glad to hear that we aren’t the only ones that think it’s fishy. Thank you SSG.

Yep no problem. I just switched to ANG and I had to ETS because my old state and the ARNG wouldn't release me due to "low retention." Retention staff really like to mess with people, especially right now with low numbers. Glad to hear your CO is on your side though. Talk to the CO about a possible IG complaint. If he/she agrees and you talk to your retention NCO, the mention of IG usually scares people. Again see what your CO thinks first.

And when I was overseas I didn't have the ETS problem you do but I was able to extend while I was there. That line of you can't do that is a lie too

If you have an ets date conflicting with your mob, they would have to extend you or let you out. You don’t have to extend

Similar situation i was in. I ets october of 2019 for my 6 year contract in the NG. I mob 2019 and they told me i would have extend for 1 year to cover the deployment i did and went 1 year into my IRR time. Covid hit and we got extended a month and i ets before we came back, I kept reminding them i had to re enlist ( which i wanted to) but they kept pushing it back until they gave me the option to come back 1 month before everyone else october 20202. On my way back i met a active duty guy who ets in 4 months and was mobilized and just came back 5 months before everyone else. So either they extend you 6 months or you would come back early.
